Where tradition meets imagination 🎨✨

In the hands of Alex and Yuliana, alebrijes take on new forms—cars, instruments, and pieces that move beyond the expected, while staying deeply rooted in the traditions of San Martín Tilcajete. They´ve even perfected artful bamboo sunglasses in their signature style.

Each piece is crafted using high-quality modern materials, then brought to life through the intricate, ancestral painting techniques the village is known for. The result? A fusion of tradition and innovation.

This is what happens when creativity evolves, but culture stays at the center 💛

What makes us happy at Tlayudona isn't just what we do. It's who we do it with!

It's the smiles shared as we hand-pat asymmetrical tortillas, the pride in our host's eyes as she captivates a family with stories of her own ancestry, the moment that a visitor realizes they aren't just visiting Oaxaca--they're making real connections.

Happiness for us is knowing that we are generating a positive impact.

After many of years of our piecemeal wordpress website, Tlayudona is finally stepping into the present with our updated page, thanks to Édgar Andrés !

Please check it out, boost our traffic, and let us know what you think. Feel free to send a DM with constructive criticism, especially if you are, have been, or want to one day be a client! (It still has a few kinks that we are working out, and a couple of things still need to be migrated from the previous file-pile of chaos, but it is mostly underway!)

Feel free to hit up Edgar if you need website work done here in Oaxaca or really anywhere in the mundo mundial. He is lovely to work with and very patient in his attempts to transform our abstract subjective requests into a functional digital product.

During their visit to Oaxaca, members of the Borchard Foundation experienced a meaningful exploration of Mexico and its mezcals, guided by Samuel of “Rosita de Borracho.”
During this gathering, they discovered not only the different flavor profiles and production processes of mezcal, but also the stories, land, and traditions that give life to each distillate. Samuel shared his knowledge generously, creating a space for conversation where every sip became a gateway to the culture, the earth, and the hands that make this ancestral spirit possible.
It was a rich sensory and cultural experience that allowed them to understand mezcal beyond the glass — as identity, community, and living heritage ✨

We are so grateful to Emilie and Violeta for joining our beautiful three-day weaving and natural dye workshop with Doña Jose✨, held this past weekend.
Over these days, they learned more about her story and the women’s weaving collective that keeps this tradition alive in Teotitlán del Valle. They explored natural dyeing techniques and created their own woven piece entirely with their own hands 🤲🌿
They also shared meaningful and joyful moments with Doña Josefina’s family, making the experience even more authentic and special.
We hope they take home not only their weaving, but also cherished memories, new knowledge, and a little piece of Oaxaca with them ❤️.

During their stay in our beautiful state, members of the Borchard Foundation enjoyed a special experience while visiting the Ardilla Family in Atzompa, artisans who have dedicated their lives to working with clay. During this visit, they had the opportunity to experience the full creative process up close, from preparing the material to learning the techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Guided by the Ardilla Family, participants shaped their own pieces, sharing time, stories, and knowledge in a space of connection, creativity, and tradition. A meaningful moment to appreciate handcrafted work and the cultural legacy that continues to live through the hands that create it. ✨

In San Bartolo Coyotepec, clay is transformed into art through skilled hands that preserve an ancestral tradition. Each black clay piece is the result of patience, dedication, and deep respect for the community’s cultural heritage. ✨
During this experience, you will get a close look at the creative process, from preparing the material and shaping the clay to the traditional techniques that bring each piece to life. You will also have the opportunity to create your own piece with your own hands, guided by Doña Sandra, a local artisan from the community 💕.
