If you are curious as to what I have been up to, part of my big plans of developing an audio scripted podcast show Absurd Theatre Group (think radio theater) is to pick up some voice-over work (hopefully) in audio narrative to help fund my show and help put some actors back to work. As I am a paying member of SAG (Union), and most commercial work is non-union, my chances are very slim, but one can still dream right?

Anyway, I took a 30 second section out of my 2.5 minute Narrative Voice-Over Demo reel (that I had professionally produced back in 2019) and put some visual to it, not much, but just a little to complement my voice-over online calling card. I believe that having visual helps, but can get distracting to show actual person speaking? What do you think, is it more effective this way?

Okay, my first interview, first show for Zuma Café! S1E1. Wahooooooo!

Join me, Mircea Oprea, on Zuma Café as I have a conversation with David Roth, who has led the Theatre Department as the Theater Director at Staples High School in Westport Connecticut for more than twenty-one years. We talk about how he got there, who and what were his inspirations, how he does it ...

Since it IS TBT and this was an actual goal of mine, I thought I would post this photo from a most awesome day at work. I grew up watching Star Trek. Didn't miss a show. Of course they were all reruns . . . I'm not THAT old. Then in college, I watched Star Trek Next Generation (one with Patrick Stewart) with my roommates. Forward to many years later, when getting back into acting in 2018 by way of background work, I was called up for a fitting in 2019 in Santa Clarita for a show that was being called - Royal Flush. I had NO idea what this show was. I thought it was some type of 70s era series that involved gambling and other vices as this was the trend. I would later learn that this name was given to keep a low profile for shooting. I was to play a "Human Researcher" and needed to be fitted for the scenes that I would be in. When I showed up to wardrobe they had me try on a gray mechanic's jumpsuit (with shoulder pads) a groovy gray belt, and a pair of generic all black boots for the next day's shoot. I still had no idea what show it was for. As I was trying on the gray jumpsuit, I saw some pictures of CBS’ reboot of Star Trek, Star Trek: Discovery. But I knew that this was filmed in Canada. I asked the woman managing my wardrobe if her production company was affiliated with that show. The woman then me if I knew what show I was going to be in. I said “um . . . Royal Flush?” She then told me that it was Star Trek: Picard (again starring Patrick Stewart). I had heard that they were doing a reboot, but no idea that I would be in it. So the blur is me, even put an arrow above my ghost like image so you can see that YES I had accomplished a lifelong goal of making it on a Star Trek episode. Would have preferred to have been a Romulan, but then again those actors had to show up to makeup at 5:00 AM.

See if you can spot me in my big break out role as a 1980s security guard in Dan Broderick's office building in San Diego in USA Networks' - Dirty John The Betty Broderick Story S2E3. It was fun. Got to meet Christian Slater who is back on my - "this guy is pretty cool" list. Shot last year about this time at Universal Studios. Hint: I'm behind the post, which is behind Rachel Keller - (playing Linda Kolkena).
