The Shoe From Peru

This project is about this little girl shoe that – from May 2008 on – is travelling around the world going from photographer to photographer. Almost 5 years later the shoe has been in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and North America and it has been photographed by 49 photographers. Slowly but surely the shoe is finding it’s way back to the riverbeds where it has been found. After the big flood of the 1998 El Nino phenomenon, there were thousands of shoes without a pair scattered all over the lower Rio Ica Valley, Peru. Claudia Luthi couldn’t resist picking one up: A small black girl shoe, made of patent leather, like they use them for First Communion and the like… kind of a Cinderella shoe, obviously used, with it’s unknown story graved into the lacquer.
