PHILIA & KIDS III - Brazil
Philia & Kids is Galerie Philia’s philanthropic initiative dedicated to introducing children to the world of design through creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration.
For this third edition, curated by Ygaël Attali and developed in partnership with Brazilian designer Gisela Simas, the project brought together children from underserved communities in Petrópolis, Brazil with the local organization SOS SERRA.
Over several months, students explored the relationship between nature, material, and form through a series of workshops. Inspired by their observations of the surrounding landscape and working from reclaimed wood collected from fallen trees, they imagined and drew their own furniture sculptures.
Guided by and a team of master artisans led by Guga Casari, the children's drawings were transformed into sculptural and functional objects crafted from salvaged local wood. Each piece reflects the imagination of its young author while promoting sustainability, material reuse, and creative learning.
Following an exhibition at the Crystal Palace in Petrópolis and a charitable auction at in São Paulo, the project will continue its journey with an exhibition at the MAC Niterói in Rio de Janeiro from August 11 to August 20, 2026, in partnership with
All proceeds from the project will support future editions of Philia & Kids and contribute to the long-term ambition of establishing a permanent school dedicated to art, design, and craftsmanship for children in Petrópolis.
Philia & Kids demonstrates how design can become a powerful tool for education, environmental awareness, and social impact.
