I’ll be honest…

I’ve been struggling with social media lately.

I’ve been struggling with the notion that to have a successful online business in this day and age you have to niche, niche, niche down.

How do you niche down as a multi-passionate person?

Through my life I’ve worn many hats in the pursuit to find my own. Most of my life I’ve been an explorer of roads and passions alike.

I’ve learned to row down rivers and I’ve also learned how style fashion shoots. I’ve lived in jungles and I’ve lived in cities both big and small. I’ve been a painter and a sculptor and a designer. I’ve been involved with motorcycles, film, theater, social and environmental projects. I’ve fallen in love with canvases and cameras alike.

And I have been equally passionate about all of the above.

I have a wandering mind and soul.

So today I’m asking you, dear friends…what is it that you would like to see more of in this platform?

How can I serve you better?

Is it design and branding tips?
Is it travel and adventure?
Is it art and how-to’s?
Is it mental health and growth?
Is it all of the above?

In Mexico we don’t “celebrate” Women’s day. In Mexico, standing on the shoulders of the women who came before us, we’re still shouting to have our voices heard. To keep paving the way to equality and freedom in many ways…for us and the ones to come.

If you’ve been around for a while, you know art used to be a huge part of my life. So much that for years my handle was “emilypaints” (and some friends even still call me that!).

Life and travel have detoured me a bit from creating art. It’s hard to keep with the techniques I loved while traveling and moving around so much.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But lately I’ve been feeling art’s siren call pulling me back. Like an itch I need to scratch. And bad.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m easing back into art by sketching while I travel. And I’m having a blast. Plus…I’m planning to re-open an online store soon!!

I didn’t know I was going to Vienna until 2 hours before I boarded the plane. 🤯
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it was the best surprise in the entire universe.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This city is as regal as I’d always imagined. Opulent, subtle, calm and imposing all at the same time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A living, breathing museum that extends for blocks and blocks. Not only because of its large collection of grandiose monuments…but because every corner, every window, every sign is beautiful. Walking through Vienna feeds the eye (and the soul).

This is a city for art lovers.
And for lovers too. 💓
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How did I get so lucky?
I have no idea.

Ps. Most of Vienna’s shops, restaurants and sites of interest are “2G only” (aka 2 vaccines). And more and more loves are becoming “3G only” (3 vaccines). If you’re going to Vienna anytime soon, keep that in mind… Crazy times we live in 🤷🏻‍♀️

From crazy Christmas lights and medieval towers to the Atlantic Ocean and New Year’s Eve on the oceanside. I’ve spent this week mostly offline, in a dance between jet lag and wonder at the liveliness of Spain’s sunny south.

Is going to Bali and having your life change a cliche by now?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Probably. But let me hang on to Jack Kerouac’s words and say that “all clichés are truisms and all truisms are true.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They say Bali calls you for a reason.
And boy, are they right.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I planned to go to Bali for 3 years in a row.
Until life pushed me to take the leap.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It happened when it needed to happen, to the degree that I went right when a global pandemic was about to explode and my stay would be prolonged…by a year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bali has become a bit of a cliche, true. From Eat, Pray, Love to Instagrammers doing the same content over and over again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But this island’s magic is real.
It’s unique energy is real.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So don’t be fooled by the smoke and mirrors of the over-done Bali insta postcards. Forget the trendy cafes and the influencer money shots. I mean, they’re cool and all but Bali is SO MUCH MORE than that.
