Our Manzanillo gallery is now closed:
We would like to thank all of you who visited Galeria Mex-ECO to view or purchase the beautful indigenous art we collected from around Mexico. This project began in 2019 as an initiative of Experience Mex-ECO Tours during a time when we were unable to take our group trips to different areas of Mexico due to COVID; it provided a way for us to continue purchasing from local artists and artisans while we couldn't visit their workshops as part of our tours.

As Mex-ECO Tours continues to grow, we find it is hard to dedicate enough time to Galería Mex-ECO and have decided to concentrate our attention on the tours and our online booking experience, meaning we will no longer have a physical location in Manzanillo. We will still have local staff, and we are happy to say that Cecilia from Galeria Mex-ECO will be opening her own little store in Manzanillo: DePilon Art Shop (click to view her page).

Beautiful new bags and rugs in Galería Mex-ECO from our friends in Teotitlan del Valle. The traditional patterns seen in these designs each represent aspects of the Zapotec culture, many of which can be seen on the remains of the great Zapotec cities, such as Monte Albán and Mitla (archaeological sites). Three common elements include: diamonds, which represent 'Ojo de Dios' (eye of God); arrows, which represent the maiz flower; and the geometric spiral, which represents the life cycle. It is also common to see birds, butterflies and mountains in the designs, representing the importance of nature in the Zapotec culture. 😍
