The Improvised Music Project presents The Violeta Project, featuring special guests Stomu Takeishi (bass), Lucia Pulido (voice), Cuong Vu (trumpet), and Ted Poor (drums), performing the music of Chilean composer Violeta Parra.
Program Detail
After years of working with vocalist Lucía Pulido and immersing himself in researching Colombian music, bassist Stomu Takeishi stumbled upon the songs of Chilean composer Violeta Parra. He saw in Parra’s songs the rich depth and spirit that would provide a natural home for Lucía’s virtuosic musicality, brought to life through the unique chemistry and creative language that he, Ted Poor, and Cuong Vu have cultivated over 25 years as the Cuong Vu Trio. Takeishi's Violeta Project emerged as a perfect framework to showcase Lucía’s extraordinary artistry in a new and compelling way.
Make room for THIS on your Friday calendar: Music by Chilean composer Violeta Parra performed by a top-shelf crew led by bassist Stomu Takeishi. Presented by our own Improvised Music Project, the Violeta Project showcases the vocal artistry of Columbian singer/instrumentalist Lucia Pulido alongside the impeccable musical vibes of the Cuong Vu Trio. Friday, October 3, 8 pm at the Chapel Performance Space in Wallingford. Free (with suggested donation). Details at the link!
