Gente que cambia el mundo. Gracias Mijaíl.
After my stint as a staff photog at LIFE, I self assigned myself to go to Siberia and photograph the nickel mines in Norilsk. I mentioned this to TIME magazine, and told them on my way through Moscow, I would really like to photograph Gorbachev. They told me they wouldn’t pay me to do it, but I could use the resources of the bureau, which was important. I managed a studio session with Gorbachev, which I was not happy with, and pressed his people for another session, out in the woods at the end of Kutozofsky Prospekt, a major thoroughfare in Moscow. He came and posed for me for less than five minutes. Which was fine. He was isolated in the woods, which is what I wanted to show. Him alone. Reviled by the traditionalists, who thought he gave away too much to the West, and criticized by progressives who felt he didn’t go far enough. A man alone. A significant life. An important individual at that time in history. — view on Instagram https://instagr.am/p/Ch9mgdGgJZC/
