The Fort Worth Stock Show (1909): Quanah Parker was a frequent and celebrated guest at this event in Fort Worth. He famously rode his horse in parades there, often accompanied by his wives and other Comanche leaders. Photographers at these events captured many high-quality "action" shots of him in full regalia.
​The 1896 Visit to Quanah, Texas: On July 4, 1896, Parker visited the town named in his honor. He arrived with over 200 Comanche followers and held a massive parade. Many iconic images of him on horseback were staged during or around these high-profile Texas visits to document the "Last Chief" for historical and commercial purposes.
​The Photographer's Origin: Many of these portraits were archived by Texas-based photographers or institutions, such as the University of Texas at Arlington or The Portal to Texas History, which has helped solidify the photo's association with Texas history.
