When You Have a Listing On AirBnb or VRBO You Have One Big Problem - You Don't Own Your Customers

Most Airbnb and Vrbo hosts are focused on getting bookings. That’s fine. No bookings = no money.

But there’s a bigger problem most hosts don’t see: you don’t own your customers.

When someone books through Airbnb or Vrbo, you don’t control the relationship, you don’t have direct access to the guest, and you can’t market to them again. Every booking becomes a one-time event. You’re starting from zero every time.

That means you’re renting access to customers; you're not building a business.

An email list changes that completely.

Instead of relying on Airbnb every time, you can stay in touch with past guests, offer repeat stays, promote upgrades, and build direct bookings without paying platform fees. Even a small list gives you stability and control.

If you don’t do this, here’s what happens: you stay dependent on algorithms, you lose repeat revenue, you deal with constant competition, and you build nothing long-term. One policy change or account issue can wipe you out overnight.

With an email list, you turn one booking into multiple opportunities. You build a real asset. You stop starting from zero.

This is where most hosts get confused. You’re not trying to break Airbnb’s rules or steal bookings. You’re simply building a relationship after the stay. That’s normal business.

It can be as simple as offering a local guide, WiFi access page, or a small perk in exchange for an email. Then you follow up, stay in touch, and give them a reason to come back.

Every guest you don’t capture is gone forever. You already paid to get them — and then you let them walk away.

Airbnb is not your business. It’s a channel. If you rely on it completely, you stay dependent. If you build your own list, you gain control, increase profit, and create something that actually grows over time.

You don’t need more bookings. You need to stop losing the ones you already have.

If You Create Art With AI and You Don't Know How to See as an Artist, You Will Create a Lot of Slick Looking, Bad Computer Art

I took the liberty of rewriting this article. https://www.creativebloq.com/design/graphic-design/human-artists-charge-too-much-ai-can-do-just-as-good-a-job-ai-logo-controversy-divides-creatives?lrh=0d8381b64d1eeacabaab70a1b87c6551ff380158f048cc2ff12743b8339c72fc

Here's my perspective.

A restaurant in Santa Cruz was recently entangled in a tricky controversy after its artificially generated logo led to a tidal wave of bad reviews. While owner Rachel Smith has since changed the design to a more conventional, AI-free logo, the debacle has sparked a wider conversation over the ethics of AI in design.

Here’s the part most people miss:

If you create art with AI and you don’t know how to see as an artist, you will create a lot of slick-looking, bad computer art.

That's the real issue here - not knowing how to see as an artist - and that changes everything.

"It is a restaurant, not a design agency."

The Fastest Way to Write a Book

Many people think writing a book is hard.

In reality, it isn’t.

What’s hard is trying to do it without a clear plan. That’s where people get stuck, overwhelmed, and quit.

There’s a faster, easier way to do this.

Step 1: Start with a money-making idea.

Before you write anything, go to Amazon and search your topic.

If you see books there, that’s a good sign. It means people are already interested.

You’re not guessing; you’re stepping into existing demand.

Step 2: Build your outline (this matters more than anything)

Think of your outline like:

* the keel of a ship
* or a roadmap

Without it, you're like a ship at sea without a rudder, engine or a compass.

Once the outline is clear, you’re no longer “figuring it out," you’re following a path.

Step 3: Don’t focus on writing; focus on getting the ideas out

This is where most people slow themselves down.

There are three ways to create a book:

The slow way: Sit down and write everything by hand or by typing.

It works… but it takes a lot of time and energy.

The fast way: Dictation

Open Google Docs. Turn on voice typing. Start talking.

Just get your ideas out.

Don’t worry about perfection. You can clean it up later using:

* ChatGPT
* Claude
* or an editor

This alone can save you a huge amount of time.

The most powerful way: The interview method

Instead of writing, you talk through your ideas with someone who knows how to ask the right questions.

A good interviewer will pull things out of you that you wouldn’t think to write on your own, such as:

* insights
* stories
* connections

One of the most powerful questions I like to ask is:

> “We’ve covered a lot today. is there anything you want to say that we haven’t touched on yet?”

That’s usually where everything opens up.

Here’s the truth many people miss:

Books don’t come from writing.

They come from:

* clear thinking
* strong structure
* and getting the ideas out of your head efficiently

Do those three things, and the process becomes much faster.

I’m opening up availability for editing work.

For most of my career, I’ve worked as a writer and editor, with over 1,000 published articles and experience as an Associate Editor at WebReference. My work has appeared in places like CIO, CreativeBloq, and Photoshop User, and I’ve written full-length technical manuals as well.

What I’ve noticed, again and again, is that good ideas often get lost in weak ex*****on.

Not because people aren’t smart. But because writing clearly is harder than it looks.

That’s where I come in.

I help take content that is:

• unclear
• too long
• unfocused
• or just not working
.. and turn it into something that reads cleanly, makes sense, and actually connects with people.

I work on:

• Articles
• Email sequences
• Sales pages
• Technical or instructional content

If you already have something written, I can improve it.

If you’re stuck before that point, I can help shape it so it works from the start.

Right now, I’m actively looking for editing work and open to new projects.

If you think I might be a fit, send me a message.
