CONJUNTO DEL BONITO! DEL QUE MARCÓ ÉPOCA, ALEGRABA EL CORAZÓN Y PONÍA A BAILAR A CUALQUIERA
Hay agrupaciones que sacan canciones del momento... y hay verdaderas LEYENDAS que se quedan grabadas para siempre en la memoria y en el alma del pueblo. LOS DOS GILBERTOS pertenecen a esa estirpe de oro que le dio identidad, orgullo y sabor a la música conjunto y tejana.
Fue en la década de los 70 en Texas cuando Gilberto García y Gilberto López comenzaron a tocar juntos. Al compartir el mismo nombre de pila y ser los líderes de la agrupación, nació un nombre sencillo, directo y perfecto para su público: Los Dos Gilbertos. Y aunque con el tiempo Gilberto López tomó otro camino y pasaron grandes músicos por sus filas —como el maestro Rubén Garza en el bajo sexto—, Don Gilberto García decidió conservar el nombre original, porque la huella y el cariño que ya le tenía la gente era gigante.
Hablar de ellos es recordar una época donde la música se hacía con el alma, con el repique clarito del acordeón de botones y la precisión inigualable del bajo sexto. No necesitaban arreglos complicados ni efectos modernos: bastaba el sonido puro del conjunto para llenar las pistas, levantar el ánimo en el trabajo o acompañar las mejores pláticas en el patio de la casa con la familia y los amigos.
Sus huapangos acelerados, sus polkas contagiosas y sus rancheras de cantina no solo marcaron a una generación; le dieron ritmo a nuestras vidas y nos dejaron recuerdos de bailes inolvidables, de esos donde se taconeaba con ganas desde que sonaba la primera nota.
