Thank you to Chitoliro Heroines FC for inviting us to your 2025/26 Southern Region Women’s League title celebrations.

Beyond celebrating football, it was beautiful to witness culture, movement, and community come together through performances from the winners of the Uyo Dance Showdown, a reminder that celebration can take many forms.

Congratulations once again on a historic achievement.

From 2–3 May 2026, the Film Segment of the Zomba City Festival transformed Mango Lodge in Zomba into a space for film, conversation, learning, and exchange.

Across two days, filmmakers, creatives, students, scholars, and audiences gathered for screenings, workshops, and panel discussions exploring storytelling, culture, identity, and social issues through film.

The programme featured works by Never Matewele, Tafadzwa Ranganai, Shemu Joyah, Dirk Zekveld and collaborators, Collins Bonongwe, among others, alongside the African premiere of The Banjo Boys with Neil Nayar in attendance.

The Mobile Filmmaking Workshop was facilitated by Dr. Lawrence Luhanga with support from Dirk Zekveld.

Panel discussions moderated by Solomon Idyo featured conversations with Shemu Joyah and Dr. Jones Mawerenga on John Chilembwe and the Lessons for Today’s Youth, while Saiwale Shaime, Harry Chindiwo, and Collins Bonongwe led a discussion on Youth Su***de in Malawi: Awareness, Prevention and the Role of Storytelling.

The Film Segment was curated by Solomon Idyo alongside Emmanuel Kabango and Alinafe Vinyo.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this part of the festival possible.

Here are some moments from the weekend.
