WHEN CIVIL SERVANTS GET ZERO SALARY INCREMENT WHILE OTHERS IN SAME GOVERNMKENT GET 50% PAY RISE, YOU NEED TO STAND UP FOR DPP
When DPP was in power, there were clear rules of the game on salary increment. When Bingu was president around 2008, primary teachers and Police Officers were getting between MK6,000 and MK9,000 per month so were Civil servants on grade M salary scale. It sounds very sad and it was, but TRUE.
Chitsulo cha njanji challenged that when he would be leaving office, he wanted Civil servants to have been awarded a salary increment of over 500% so that the least paid civil servant on grade M should be getting not less than MK36,000 per month. People laughed at the Economic Engineer but when DPP is doing the right thing, you know how we do it, we even become too adamant and stubborn just to fulfil our manifesto.
DPP Delivers! The Economic Engineer did not finish his term but when he was leaving office, Civil servants on grade M salary scale were awarded over 500% salary increment and no one was receiving MK6,000 per month like how Bingu found them. These are stubborn facts that will SHOCK kwantele. Infact, he is already shocked that DPP did this.
Now came the silent performer, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika. APM simply improved Civil Servants’ Salaries on grade M from MK36,000 per month to between MK106,000 and MK120,0000 and he was still on right track to improve them to between MK250,000 and MK280,000 Per month at the end of his term. Mind you, we have simply sampled primary school teachers and police Officers because these are some of Civil Servants that have been neglected by the current government.
The message Civil Servants must take home is this; the MCP government has given themselves and their associates 50% salary increment and you have been given nothing. It is clear that even 20% wouldn’t be enough but it could still change something but the government has decided to give you nothing. When you are suffering, remember there is a party that is ridiculed left and right but when it is in power, it has clear Civil Servant salary increment agenda and the motto is Together, Taking Malawi Forward. The choice is yours
