From Kwela, Kwaito, Pantsula, Gqom to Amapiano, South Africa (SA) has consistently produced authentic sounds, music and dance that have spoken to its times as a nation. SA has consistently dominated Southern Africa with its influences while reaching other parts of the continent and the world.

Have we managed to do the same with our music, fashion and dance?

If not, why do we never dominate at least Southern Africa with our sound?

THERE IS A DAWN OF A NEW ERA IN MALAWI'S MUSIC INDUSTRY

In 2017, Fredokiss, through his genius, ushered our industry to an exciting era. The philosophy of that era was: "we will give you the music for free but we will sell the fame".

He invested millions in making expensive videos and audios that were released to the public for free. After growing his name out of the music that was released, he put in more millions in free shows that attracted massive crowds in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.

He became the biggest name in our music business. He then sold his fame to NBS, United Nations and many other organizations that wanted to work with him because of his influence. He became the first musician to make 89 million kwacha in one year.

From that moment till now, music has never been a product on sale. The fame was. A musician would pay 100,000 kwacha for audio, a million for video, and 500,000 kwacha for promotion, just for people to access the songs for free. Rarely did we see artists organising there own events during this era. Hardly did we see albums being released.

This year we are seeing something different. Piksy, Gwamba, Kell Kay, Eli Njuchi, Armstrong, Lawi are all releasing albums that will be up for sale. Artists are now organising there own shows, selling tickets and filling up venues. Music is now a product on sale. This new era will see artists becoming millionaires and billionaires. Kell Kay's show was evidence of the dawn of the new era.

This is sad guys, hold the hand that feeds you, don't bite it, nobody is going to live forever, give those flowers while they can smell them and celebrate legacies!

R.I.P. Atom the DJ there shall be none other🤧

Dear Atom the Dj, today we have layed you to rest, over the years we have seen you putting in alot of work to promote artists. Over the years we have seen artists you have helped to become big brands in the industry.

We expected these big brands to pay their last respects to you at your funeral but sadly we saw less than a handful of the artists you have worked so hard in their music career.

A big shout-out to Lucius Chiccio Banda and other artists including media personalities who payed their respect to you.

Continue resting in power legend
