WHAT YOU WERE YESTERDAY, WHAT YOU ARE TODAY

I see more now than I did yesterday—
spread thin like peanut butter on bread.
In my life, I want you to matter.

My mind and heart are fighting over you.
Tell me, which one did you win?
Even my own thoughts feel lost.

The harder I try to forget you,
the more I write your name.
It feels like waking from a dream:
yesterday, you were ordinary.
Today, you’re uncomfortably beautiful.

You say we’re just friends. I can take that.
But who explains this to the two of me
ready to tear each other apart?

It is Africa Day.

The day we celebrate Africa as a living story shaped by struggle, resilience, creativity, and hope. As writers, we are not just witnesses of this story; we are its authors.

Africa holds nearly 20% of the world’s population but produces only about 5% of global publishing output, not due to lack of talent, but due to unequal systems, access, and opportunity.

Yet our writing continues to make a global impact, generating billions annually and gaining international recognition.

From the African Writers Series to today’s digital and self-publishing platforms, African writers have always found ways to speak, even when doors were closed.

Still, a contradiction remains: African writers are globally celebrated, while many African readers struggle to access their own literature.

The good news is that the story is changing.

Across the continent, writers are embracing self-publishing, digital platforms, WhatsApp marketing, and local languages, thereby building their own literary pathways.

Truth; Africa does not lack writers.
Truth; Africa lacks equal systems for writers.
Truth; African writers continue to rise.

To every writer in Malawi: your voice matters.

Your stories preserve memory, challenge injustice, and shape the future of our continent.

Write boldly. Write truthfully. Write Africa forward.

Happy Africa Day.

AFRICA

I have carried the heart of Africa.
It has a story to tell,
At the top of the mountain,
It's greeny self.
It cries out to the sun's rays,
Tears that don't flow
But fall endlessly to the body of her,...Africa

She is a natural beauty,Africa
Melanin in dark
Her smile that brings out the day's light.
She carries not only livey waters
Lifey as a wifey she smiles behind the shadows of lies.

Africa, she is in my hand.
Her heart beats fast
As time passes to tick tocking
Blood she sheds under joys.
Looking at the whitey-blood life of her.
Chastity children she has lost.

Who knows loyalty in life.
She doesn't cry
She loves
With all in her heart in my hand I pray I won't break it to pieces.
AFRICA.

WHAT IS THIS FEELING

An insubstantial phantom haunts the mind,
A subtle tremor in the crowded chest,
Where reason fails its boundaries to find
And leaves the quiet consciousness oppressed,
By some ephemeral and strange unrest.
It is a twilight state of shifting shades,
Where melancholy and delight entwine,
Like fading echoes in decaying glades,
Or bitter dregs within a glass of wine,
A labyrinth without a guiding line.
The lexicon of sorrow fails to name
This nebulous, intoxicating weight,
That burns within me like a secret flame,
Both agonizing and sublimely great,
A sudden hand that alters mortal fate.
I stand suspended on a precipice,
Between the known world and the grand obscure,
Enraptured by a sudden, fleeting bliss,
Yet feeling all my certainties recure,
In this profound, unsettled overture.

Stuck in the Past 🕰️🧠

Sometimes mental health struggles make us hold tightly to old memories, especially the moments that once made us feel loved, safe, or happy. We replay them because the present feels empty or painful. But living in the past can stop us from healing and appreciating new experiences. Growth begins when we learn to cherish memories without allowing them to control our present life.

🌿 Saturday Mental Health 🌿
✨ Topic: Mental Health & Addiction ✨

Mental health and addiction are deeply connected, yet society often treats them as separate struggles.
Many people battling addiction are also fighting silent wars within their minds anxiety, depression, trauma, loneliness, and pain that words cannot always explain.

Addiction is not simply about “bad choices.” Sometimes, it is an attempt to escape unbearable emotional pain. And mental health challenges should never be ignored because they are invisible.

We need more compassion, more listening, and less judgment.
Healing begins when people feel safe enough to speak and supported enough to seek help.

Check on your friends.
Speak kindly to yourself.
And remember: asking for help is strength, not weakness.
