In 2024, we launched the inaugural CX4I, a first-of-its-kind gathering that brought together artists, cultural practitioners, policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs and industry leaders to explore the role of the cultural and creative industries in shaping sustainable development and economic growth.

Through dialogue, knowledge exchange, networking and collaboration, the conference created a platform for ideas, innovation and partnerships that continue to inspire the sector.

As we prepare for the return of UMP Festival in 2027, CX4I will also return as the festival’s official industry conference.

In the lead-up to 2027, we will be rolling out a series of knowledge-sharing, learning and networking events designed to foster dialogue, strengthen collaboration and contribute to the growth of Malawi’s creative economy.

More details coming soon.

The Evolution of UMP: From Urban Music People to Ubuntu Music People

A major shift is happening in Malawi's creative space as one of its biggest cultural platforms undergoes a powerful transformation. The well-known event entity UMP has officially changed its name from Urban Music People to Ubuntu Music People. This shift represents a deeper commitment to celebrating shared humanity, community, and African culture through the arts.

The organizers have summarized this new direction with a clear message: different identity, different vision, same UMP. While the branding and core focus are evolving to become more inclusive, the foundational strength of the platform remains untouched. It continues to stand as a premier celebration of talent and creativity in the region.

Fans and industry players can look forward to the same high-energy experiences and dedication to local talent that UMP has always delivered. This new "Ubuntu" era marks an exciting chapter for Malawian entertainment, blending modern creative industries with deep-rooted cultural values.
