The body of Brain Banda, who was the Director General of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, has been laid to rest at M'banda Village in Chileka, Blantyre.

In his eulogy, Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi said President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, is deeply touched by his death and the country has lost a talented person who helped to shape the media industry.

Among those who attended the funeral were Former Vice President Michael Usi, senior party members of the Democratic Progressive, Peter Mukhito, Joseph Mwanamvekha, Roza Mbilizi, Charles Nchancha and other members of opposition parties, various media house managers and religious leaders.

Banda is survived by a wife and 6 Children.

The flags at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation - MBC have been lowered to half-mast.

This follows the passing of MBC Director General Brian Banda who died on Saturday, after a short illness at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital. He was born on 15 May 1980.

There is a sombre mood at MBC offices this morning as members of staff prepare to leave for M’banda Village in Chileka for the burial of their Director General.

Several people from different walks of life have gathered at Mthuzi Funeral Parlour in Blantyre to collect the remains of the late Brian Banda, who, until his death, served as the Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

Members of the media, politicians and the general public are among those in attendance, with a sombre mood prevailing as mourners pay their respects.

Banda died yesterday at Mwayiwathu Hospital after a short illness.

CENTENARY BANK DONATES WASTE MANAGEMENT EQUIPMENT TO BLANTYRE CITY COUNCIL

On August 5 2026, Centenary Bank has donated waste management equipment to Blantyre City Council as part of its commitment to supporting the Council's efforts to keep Blantyre City clean.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Bank's Head of Retail and SME Banking, Mr. Mayamiko Kalizang'oma, said the concrete bins are durable and will serve the city for a long time. He added that Centenary Bank will continue supporting the Council's cleanliness and environmental sanitation initiatives.

Receiving the donation, Blantyre City Council Vice Mayor, Councillor Gerald Lipikwe, expressed appreciation for the Bank's generous gesture. He said the donation will significantly improve waste management in the city and appealed to other organisations and well-wishers to emulate Centenary Bank by partnering with the Council to keep Blantyre clean.

The donated items include 20 concrete bins, 150 local blooms, 25 pairs of PVC gloves, five rakes, five shovels, and two wheelbarrows.
