Our journey into Steps to Christ – Chapter 1: “God’s Love for Man”

Chapter 1s question: “When did God love us?”

Answer: long before we loved Him, and even when we were at our worst.

Main idea:
God’s love isn’t based on us being good first. It started in eternity and keeps going even though humans sinned and turned away.

Key points from Chapter 1:
1. God loved us before creation – The plan of salvation wasn’t an afterthought after Adam sinned. God already loved us and made the plan to redeem us before the world began.

2. God’s love is shown in giving Jesus – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son” John 3:16. God didn’t wait for us to deserve it. He gave His Son while we were still sinners.

3. Even at our worst, He loves us – We often think God is angry and only loves the good. But Romans 5:8 says “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” His love comes first, and it’s what draws us back.

4. We love Him because He loved us first – 1 John 4:19. We don’t earn God’s love by repenting. We repent because we see He already loves us.

Bottom line:
God loved us from eternity, proved it at the cross, and keeps loving us even when we mess up. The love comes first ,our response comes after.
