The village of Cascavelle is situated on the feet of the Mountain of Rempart, on of the mountains in the chain of mountains of Black River. The village is one of the 16 villages of the Black River District in the western part of the island Mauritius. Tabagie Cascavelle has around 2700 inhabitants in the 4 sub-locations Beaux-Songes, Camp Creoles (Upper Cascavelle), Camp Bombaie (Lower Cascavelle)
and Xavier. The name Cascavelle derives from a yellow flower that was found in the village a long time ago and reaches a hight of 1.3 meter. It is a wedge-leaf rattlepod (a w**d). The French called this flower «Casse-cavelle» , the English «Cascavelle »
The well known Casela-Bird Parc is belonging to the grounds of the village just as the oldest indian church of the country, which was build in 1902. The west coast of Mauritius welcomes its first shopping mall.
