Science in the City Malta 🔬🎨
Malta’s festival of science and arts.

📍 Valletta | 📅 25–26 September 2026
✨ Theme 2026: Research, Resist, Reimagine

Workshops, performances, exhibitions, hands-on experiments, VR, games & more. The main aim of SitC has been to engage people from all backgrounds both emotionally and intellectually through science and arts. For the past 12 years, it has educated and en

thralled people of all ages. It inspires creativity, nurtures critical thinking and curiosity and promotes a passion for knowledge in children, youth and adults. This year’s edition, taking place on the 26th-27th of September, themed Past Forward, reflects on how history shapes today’s innovations and future challenges. Rather than viewing nostalgia as a weakness, the festival embraces it to draw insight from past achievements and failures, using them to inform innovation, creativity and action.

*****************************************************************************************

Since the first edition of the festival, in 2012, Science in the City has been growing and developing, with countless innovative activities and ideas brought to Valletta each year. Its main events over the years have ranged from the You are the Staircase art installation (mimicking DNA) in 2012, to the Humanised Fruit Flies in 2013, AMaze2 (a huge maze featuring various scientific fields) to the Rosetta Comet-themed edition in 2015 and 'the Brain' theme in 2016. The year after we had Light Pushes Stuff, a Science and Arts installation that travelled the world. The 2020 festival was held digitally and watched by more than 20,000 unique online viewers. We converted all physical performances, music, theatre, experiments and other content to live or pre-recorded sessions streamed from a studio. It was challenging but incredibly rewarding with engagement by people from Turkey to Ireland, motivating us to run hybrid festivals from 2021 onwards!

Happy International Ocean Day! 💙🌊
The ocean is not our trash can. It’s a living home for countless creatures and a source of wonder for us all.
Protecting our oceans means protecting the future of life on Earth.
Join a local clean-up initiative and help protect our oceans and coastlines for future generations. One great example is Żibel, a non-governmental organization dedicated to safeguarding our marine environment through voluntary ocean and coastal clean-ups.
Every small action matters: reduce waste, choose reusable products, and help keep our blue planet clean. 🐠🐢

Science for everyone, by everyone. 🌈🧪

This Pride Month, Science in the City and MGRM are celebrating LGBTQI+ voices in STEAM because representation matters, inclusive research matters, and diverse perspectives make science stronger.

From visible role models to open conversations about equality, identity, gender, and community needs, this campaign highlights the importance of making research spaces more welcoming for all.

Let’s reimagine the future through inclusive science. 💡

Together, we are stronger!

The sea surrounding Malta is a beautiful destination. Its also a home for marine wildlife like dolphins—many live around Malta and Gozo.

Through educational tours and marine research initiatives, EcoMarine Malta continues to highlight the importance of understanding and protecting this delicate ecosystem.

Unfortunately, human disturbance at sea has increased noticeably in recent years. Areas once known for calm dolphin encounters are now often crowded with jet skis, speedboats, and other vessels. This growing activity can disrupt the dolphins’ natural behaviour, causing unnecessary stress and pressure on their habitat.

Respecting wildlife means giving animals the space they need to move, feed, rest, and interact naturally. Simple actions such as keeping a safe distance, reducing speed, and avoiding direct pursuit can make a significant difference.

Protecting the ecosystem is our shared responsibility 💙
