The Merkur Komet- a famous Gauselmann Group product

As a 3-reel machine, Merkur Komet was for a long time one of the most popular money winning machines on the German market. Particularly memorable about the Komet is the winning image on the three reels, commonly referred to as the "Merkur bag". The unmistakable external feature is the comet tail with integrated risk ladders on the front screen. The Komet also marked the beginning of the risk ladder, i.e. the possibility of risking your winnings again for the purpose of multiplication. In 1979, Paul Gauselmann patented the risk ladder, but other manufacturers have long since adapted this idea.

The Merkur Komet arguably helped ensure the rise of the Gauselmann Group in the 1980s and 1990s.

Unfortunately, the Merkur Komet did not make the leap into digital - unlike others like Merkur Disc. The last edition was called "Merkur komet", with a small "k". Almost simultaneously with the production of the 1,000,000th gaming machine, the era of the Merkur Komet ended.
