🌿📚🐻✨ Discover “LICK ME TO LIFE” by . Inspired by the on-site Universitat de Barcelona and the historic archives themselves, this soft sculpture-video installation is based on the medieval bestiary which divided animals into the categories of ‘good’ and ‘evil’; reinterpreting nature through a binary lens and prescribed to the people as fact.

A mother bear, venerated by the ancient communities, lovingly licks her lumpy children made from fabric, latex, and dried artemisia vulgaris 🌱. This tender creation bridges worlds and storytelling through a magical lens whilst celebrating the mother tongue and alternative knowledge.

🌱✨ “DRAWING OF A MOVEMENT (DOMUS 1),” by Vanesa Varela is the first in a series exploring life form reproduction through domestication.

This project delves into how plants and human-plant relationships are shaped by history, environments, and the plants’ inherent qualities.

🛖🪴🫘 The house and its spaces domesticate both humans and nonhumans, creating a continuous evolution of possible worlds. This piece brings together elements like the greenhouse, beans and cotton to showcase their successful diffusion and multiplication by human groups.

👩‍🎤🪧 “WOMBS ON STRIKE” by is a powerful soundscape inspired by conversations with eight women from Malta and Spain aged 30-45 who chose not to have children. These women challenge the stereotype of women as mothers, facing social stigma and taboo.

In her work, Kristina explores their experiences, turning shame into resistance and sparking discussions on diverse life choices and striving for equality 💪❤️✨

Agustín Ortiz Herrera sent me these beautiful photos of his work “GRAVIDA” coming into shape ahead of the opening of “Māter”, next Thursday 9th May at 19:30.

We are very excited to see how the exhibition is evolving since it’s first leg in Malta, in an archive that in its past also served as a hospital and housed foundlings. We will explain more about this in a brief guided visit and the artists will be present to give insight into their work.

If you want more to learn more about this artwork, based on the proto-encyclopedia of Ulisse Aldrovandi, will be giving a guided visit in English on Friday 10th May at 18:00. DM me to put you in the list!
