Hoi Polloi Hoi Polloi Malta consisting of
Hoi Polloi Theatre Company | Hoi Polloi Academy (HPA)|The Creative Hub

HOI POLLOI THEATRE PRODUCTIONS started early in 2004 when a group of enthusiastic sixth formers worked together with the help of professionals in the theatre scene to make HOI POLLOI’s first production ever come to life; SINDI RELLA – a summer panto. The idea behind HOI POLLOI is to create a platform where budding artists can be given the chance to develop and express their talent by working with

theatre veterans and by performing to live audiences. Inspired by the musical, ‘Billy Elliot’, Hoi Polloi believes that there is a lot of talent out there, sometimes in unlikely places, waiting to be discovered and nurtured. Just as Billy; the son of a widowed UK coal miner in 1985, had the potential to become an excellent ballet dancer, so do many undiscovered artists have the potential to make it in the theatre scene both locally and abroad. Hoi Polloi wants to live up to its name and provide this opportunity now with launch of the new HPA - HOI POLLOI ACADEMY with courses in Drama, Dance, Singing and Musical Theatre.

📸✨ Behind every performance is a team.

As we wrapped up our final staff meeting of Scholastic Year 2025/26, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly grateful for the people in this photo.

Over the past year, this team has helped deliver hundreds of classes, guided students through Trinity examinations, supported productions, travelled internationally, organised events, solved problems, celebrated successes, and quietly made a difference in the lives of young people every single week.

What audiences see on stage is only the tip of the iceberg. The planning, preparation, care, encouragement, and teamwork behind the scenes is what truly makes the magic happen.

At Hoi Polloi, we believe that great performing arts education is built on relationships, consistency, and a shared commitment to helping every student grow in confidence, creativity, and character.

To this remarkable team: thank you for everything you have given this year.

The work matters. The students matter. And so do the people who make it all possible.

Here’s to 2025/26 — and to everything still to come.

Our own Marco A. Calleja representing Hoi Polloi Malta at the second workshop of the Arts Council Malta Creative Innovators & Platforms Fund as we continue our journey through Phase 2.

Over the past months, we have taken a critical look at who we are, what we do, and where we are going. Now, with the support of Arts Council Malta and industry experts, we continue refining our plans for the future of the Hoi Polloi Academy, The Creative Hub, and the Hoi Polloi Theatre Company.

This is about more than growth.

It is about building stronger systems, clearer pathways, sustainable opportunities, and an even brighter future for the young people, artists, educators, and families who call Hoi Polloi Malta home.

The journey continues. 🚀

Today, Hoi Polloi Malta lost one of its quiet pillars.

A theatre dad from the very beginning. Someone who believed in the dream when it was still taking shape. Someone who believed in me personally, in our students, and in the community we were trying to build. Through the years, Jonathan was there — supporting, encouraging, and cheering us on.

Our thoughts today are with our dear Claire, Laura, and Daniele.

Many of you know Claire as one of our educators. Many of you know Laura and Daniele as fellow students, performers, and friends. This loss is therefore felt deeply throughout the HPA community.

Just last Saturday, at our Awards Night, we celebrated one of our core values: Community. Today, that value matters more than ever.

To Claire, Laura, and Daniele: please know that your Hoi Polloi family stands beside you. We grieve with you, we support you, and we hold you close in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Jonathan, thank you for believing in us. Thank you for your friendship, your kindness, and your unwavering support over the years.

You will never be forgotten and will be deeply missed.

Marco

🎭📺 Yesterday morning, we had the pleasure of sharing our JTF Europe 2026 story on TVAM

A huge thank you to TVAM, Ian Busuttil Naudi, and Jurgen Manicolo for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to speak about our students, our Achievement in Ensemble Award, and the incredible opportunities that continue to grow from Hoi Polloi Malta's participation at the Junior Theatre Festival.

Joining Mr Marco A. Calleja, were Francesca Gauci, our Student Choreographer and International All-Stars selectee, and Elizabeth Camilleri, parent chaperone and content creator, who helped share the story from both a student and parent perspective.

We also revealed some exciting news — congratulations once again to Daniele Cardona and Francesca Gauci on their selection for the International All-Stars Programme in New York and Atlanta 2027. 🗽✨

A heartfelt thank you to Music Theatre International - Europe and Travel Gang for creating these fantastic opportunities and providing our young performers with such brilliant international platforms on which to learn, grow, collaborate, and shine.

From Malta to Birmingham. From Birmingham to New York.
The journey continues.
