🧠 “My child can spend hours playing games, but struggles to focus on homework. Why?”
It's a question many parents of children with ADHD ask!
The answer isn't simply about motivation or effort. 💙
Children with ADHD can find it easier to stay engaged in activities that offer immediate rewards, clear goals and constant stimulation. Video games often provide all three!
Homework, on the other hand, usually requires sustained attention, planning, organisation and working towards a reward that isn't immediate.
So, how can we make things easier at home? 🏡
✨ Create structure and routines – Predictability helps children know what to expect.
✨ Break tasks into smaller steps – Short, manageable activities can feel less overwhelming.
✨ Use their interests – Incorporate things your child enjoys to make learning more engaging.
✨ Minimise distractions – A quiet, organised space can make a difference.
✨ Be patient and encouraging – Celebrate effort and progress, not just the final result.
Remember, ADHD isn't about a child needing to try harder. It's about understanding how their brain works and finding strategies that support them.
💙 Every child learns differently, and the right support can make all the difference.
