Founded in 2009, the school aims to promote and foster an appreciation of the art of oriental (popularly known as bellydance), fusion and arabic folk dance and culture in Malta. The school offers structured courses for beginner and intermediate levels in bellydance technique and choreography , as well as specialized classes in Arab Folklore. All technique courses follow a set syllabus – paving the
way for a consistent solid foundation. Whether you are taking up bellydance for fitness, fun or to perform, you will find our classes easy to follow and widely accessible – irrespective of age, shape or size. Furthermore, here at Ya Habibi not only will you learn how to bellydance, but you will also meet new friends, unwind from the stress of daily life and make many great memories that undoubtedly will be cherised for a lifetime. Jameelah - the founder and director of Raqs Ya Habibi, is an oriental dance instructor, performer and event organiser based in Malta. She has been dancing and performing since the tender age of nine; with her background including modern, folk, jazz and flamenco. Jameelah commenced her oriental dance training with Brazilian bellydancer Klara Brasil and ever since has immersed herself into this artform, intensively training with numerous Egyptian legends and international master teachers such as world renowned Mahmoud Reda, Farida Fahmy, Aida Nour, Lubna Emam, Mohammed Kazafy, Ahmed Refaat, Youssry Sharif, Nour, Tito, Nesrin, Nasra, Zeina, Ashmahan, Luna, Hatem Hamdi, Wael Mansour, Camelia, Orit Maftsir, Serkan, Mercedes Nieto, Reyhan, Belynda Azhaar, Portia Lange, Maria Aya and many more. To date, she is the only Maltese dancer to have received extensive specialized training on Egypt's Folkloric Dance Arts and Ethnology with Mahmoud Reda. As a dancer, Jameelah has performed in Stockholm, Turkey, Greece (in Teatro Orfei, Athens), Cairo (aboard the Golden Pharoah Nile Cruise) and at various events in Malta from weddings, family celebrations, restaurants, community festivals, and more; has appeared on various local TV programmes and is a proud member of Malema's Banat of Greece.
