The APS Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale aims to show international contemporary art. The theme for the 2023 APS Mdina Biennale is Mediterranean Goddesses

In 2023, the Mdina Biennale will be re-igniting the significance of the Mediterranean as a geographical and cultural region, this time harking back to the multi-forms of mythological, religious, and spiritual deities. Artistic Director: Prof Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci

The Lost and Found Goddesses
Curated by Rosanna Ruscio and Paolo Cortese

Mirella Bentivoglio, Francesca Cataldi, Chiara Diamantini, Elisabetta Gut, Gisella Meo, Greta Schödl, Maria Jole Serreli and Franca Sonnino - these are the names of the women artists who lavished themselves in book-objects, visual poetry, and fiber art installations and saw the Mediterranean as a metaphor for a paradigm shift, harbouring the possibility of evoking a rebirth. The themes addressed in their works are borders, plots and warps as a metaphor for life, an allegory on the idea of travel, exchange, and memory. These are artworks of lost Goddesses and, given the perennial elements of the theme, of Goddesses rediscovered as evidence of a current discourse.
