"I feel this article is SO misleading. The Manoel Theatre has inherited instruments made by Dr GEORGE DEBONO who passed away recently. You cannot call them Baroque instruments but they, for the most part, are REPLICAS of baroque instruments. George Debono was an outstanding person who could set his mind to making any instrument with great precision. When he produced an instrument with great love and care it adhered to the slightest details and technical precision. He made clavichords which he was immensely proud of, but he also made viola da gambas & violins.
In the Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti 'Music in Malta from Prehistory to Vinyl' we exhibited two of his clavichords & a viola da gamba. George always wished his instruments to be played and I can imagine his look of pride when hearing them played in their baroque context.
Thank you George!"
