axis_ was pleased to host students from the Practices in Curating I unit, led by our Artistic Director , for a series of four discursive sessions. Through conversation, reflection and constructive critique, participants were given the opportunity to expand and refine their ideas, culminating in the presentation of their final curatorial proposals.

This initiative forms part of axis_’s longer-term commitment to supporting learning, knowledge exchange and professional development through its evolving outreach programme.

Nothing is Clear / Artist Spotlight: Romeo Roxman Gatt
Works: Cruiser (2021)

Romeo Roxman Gatt’s work presents hybrid, asymmetrical forms that act as sites of transformation and care. Constructed from reclaimed materials, the sculpture reworks symbols associated with power and masculinity, holding tension between protection and vulnerability. Drawing from non-binary and trans experiences, the work opens up space for resilience, resistance and the reconfiguration of identity beyond fixed structures.

Romeo Roxman Gatt is a Malta and London-based multimedia artist working across performance, sculpture, video, sound and text. His practice engages with questions of sexuality, identity and gender through contemporary material culture, often drawing on car culture and critiques of macho behaviour. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, he has exhibited internationally and co-founded Rosa Kwir, Malta’s first queer-focused gallery and project space.

Nothing is Clear / Artist Spotlight: Kane Calì
Works: Dying Light - ‘Guess I shouldn’t have kept the knife in my heart for so long’ (2025), Orphan Rock 3 (2025), Orphan Rock 5 (2025), Orphan Rock 6 (2025), Dying Light: Dopamine Stream (2026)

Kane Calì’s works engage with technological production, automation and material transformation. Fabricated through industrial processes, they reflect a shift where authorship moves from hand to system and where precision and optimisation no longer guarantee meaning. Alongside this, his works with stone approach geological matter as a carrier of time and accumulation, positioned between natural formation and constructed systems that underpin contemporary life.

Kane Calì is a Maltese artist whose practice spans ceramics, glass and 3D printing across both virtual and physical environments. His work reflects an ongoing engagement with data, material processes and contemporary discourse. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, he has exhibited widely across Malta and internationally.
