Co-directed by Singaporean violinist Gabriel Lee and Taiwanese pianist Ying-Hua Huang, the Philharmonic Society of Myanmar presents concerts, masterclasses, workshops, seminars and its yearly Festival and Compe
tition to add vibrancy to the local Myanmar classical music scene. The Philharmonic Society of Myanmar's Festival and Competition is the country's premier classical music festival, designed for music professionals, students and enthusiasts interested to immerse in an intensive two weeks of music-making. The first edition of the festival this year will be held in Yangon from 14 - 22 July 2017 and includes private lessons and masterclasses with the Festival Directors and Artists, instrumental workshops and seminars, chamber music coachings, concerts and a student competition.
The festival aims to create a conducive environment for musicians in Myanmar to work together under the guidance of international artists, and to build international friendships through music. In order to make this available to music lovers of all backgrounds, the festival would be cost-free for all participants and audiences. A full tuition scholarship is given to all accepted active participants, which would cover their private lessons, masterclasses and chamber music coachings. All concerts, masterclasses, seminars, and group instrumental workshops are open to audit participants and the general public free of charge.
