American Corner Bitola The American Corners (AC) program is U.S. Department of State-sponsored initiative inaugurated worldwide more than 10 years ago. Embassy in Skopje.

The American Corners of North Macedonia provides information about the United States and encourage dialogue and cooperation between the people of the United States and of the Republic of North Macedonia through learning and professional development opportunities, cultural exchange activities, and sharing of information resources. The American Corners serve as venues for speeches, discussions, film

or video showings, holiday celebrations, English language conversation groups, meetings of people who have studied or traveled in the United States, programs for professional and educational development in an American-style learning environment, and other events as scheduled. The American Corners are supported by the U.S. Department of State and administered through the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. The corners also provide access to a collection of books, audio-visual materials, periodicals, online resources, and other information about the United States in English. American Corner personnel provides assistance to visitors; design and implement programs to enhance mutual understanding between the United States and North Macedonia; maintain and safeguard materials, equipment, and the premises.

Today at the Corner, we had the honor of welcoming Nicole Varnes, Chargè d’Affaires at the US Embassy in North Macedonia, where she awarded certificates to participants of the Software Development Life Cycle program, organized in partnership with IWConnect.

The program brought together students - aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators eager to strengthen their skills in software development and innovation. During her visit, Ms. Varnes engaged in a discussion with the program facilitators and participants, highlighting the important role of U.S. science and technology in driving global innovation and empowering future leaders in the tech industry.

The event celebrated the participants’ dedication and achievements while reinforcing the value of education, international collaboration, collaboration with the private sector, and innovation in creating new opportunities for young people.

Students from Private High School SABA in Bitola visited the American Corner Bitola to explore history in an innovative way through the VR experience “We The People” 🇺🇸✨

As part of the Freedom 250 celebration, students stepped into a virtual journey that brought the foundations of American democracy to life.

“We the People” is an interactive experience that allows participants to witness the signing of the Declaration of Independence and explore the historical background and significance of the U.S. Constitution. Through immersive storytelling and technology, students engaged with key historical moments in a way that was both meaningful and memorable.

Combining technology with education, this experience sparked curiosity, encouraged discussion, and offered a fresh perspective on history.

Taking another step across the USA 🇺🇸✨

As part of our “50 States, 50 Classes” program, we visited the primary school St. Kliment Ohridski in Bitola for a fun and engaging session with students!

Peace Corps Volunteer Emma DeMaranville led the activities, introducing students to the states of Washington, Wyoming, South Dakota, and West Virginia. Through interactive presentations and lively discussions, students explored each state’s geography, culture, landmarks, and unique features.

The session was filled with curiosity, creativity, and active participation, as students shared ideas and learned through hands-on activities. 📚💡

We were happy to host a group of students from the high school Krste Petkov Misirkov in Demir Hisar, who visited the American Corner Bitola together with their English teacher to learn more about our resources and activities. During their visit, the students explored our library, discovered opportunities for learning and engagement, and got a closer look at the programs we offer.

Visits like these are a great way to connect young people with new ideas, skills, and opportunities, and we look forward to seeing them back at the Corner soon!

Discovering the USA, one state at a time 🇺🇸✨

As part of our “50 States, 50 Classes” program, we visited the primary school Sv. Kiril i Metodij in the village of Logovardi for another engaging and interactive session!

The spotlight was on the state of Illinois, presented by Fulbright Scholar Jeremy Kamman. Through an inspiring presentation and lively discussion, students explored Illinois’ geography, culture, landmarks, and symbols.

The session encouraged curiosity and participation, with students actively engaging and sharing their thoughts while learning something new. 📚💡

Join us for a unique, hands-on photography experience led by Angel Andreevski, inspired by his exchange studies in the United States.

This two-part workshop is designed to help you both understand photography fundamentals and develop your own creative voice.

✨ Part 1: Learn & Create
Dive into the essentials of photography: composition, lighting, perspective, and visual storytelling. Through real examples and practical exercises, you’ll explore how technical choices shape the mood and meaning of an image.
Then, choose a photographer who inspires you and begin creating your own mini portfolio, experimenting with their style and even recreating one of their signature looks.

✨ Part 2: Present & Grow
Return with your work for a collaborative critique session. Share your creative process, compare your results with your chosen artist, and receive constructive feedback to refine your skills and artistic direction.

Exploring the USA, one state at a time 🇺🇸✨

As part of our “50 States, 50 Classes” program, we visited the primary school Todor Angelevski in Bitola for an exciting and interactive learning experience!

Our sessions were led by Peace Corps Volunteers Jack Kamps, who introduced students to the vibrant state of California, and Emma DeMaranville, who took students on a journey through Arkansas, Texas, and Minnesota. Through engaging presentations, fun discussions, and interactive activities, students discovered each state’s unique culture, geography, and landmarks.

Curiosity was high, ideas were flowing, and learning was anything but ordinary! 💡📚

We’re excited to keep the journey going and bring even more states to classrooms across the community. 🌎💙
