I think each of you knows someone like this... someone born with natural style and charisma. People whose magnetism isn’t forced, but almost ‘tamed’ to keep it under control.
I received Martin’s book at the perfect moment, after its mysteriously long journey from the Czech Republic to Serbia. And now, I hold in my hands a unique documentary narrative of the 2023 Dakar Rally. The inner life of the bivouac, the dialogues, the incredible encounters—all illustrated by Martin’s photography. Looking at this photo reportage, I find it hard to say what struck me more: the aesthetic of the shots or their depth of meaning. To me, this is a prime example of how a photographer’s intelligence, experience, and professionalism place their work in a league far beyond reach for many others.
As for the magic... the book ‘Between the Wastelands’ arrived just as I began working on Jacky Ickx’s legendary Porsche. There’s no need to even decode this coincidence. It’s simply a sign that we are exactly where we belong.
