MEMORY DISTORTION. M I X T A P E

A performance about memory, time, and history, starting from the idea of the loop and the production of loop tapes.
History as a loop. Can history be rewritten? Or only replayed? Sound as an emotional archive of an endless transition from the Soviet socialist system to a neoliberal democracy, from one union to another. Not as nostalgia, but as an act of resistance against forgetting.
Who decides what is archived? What is allowed to remain? What is overwritten? A work that is confrontational, condensed, interdisciplinary, and somewhere between concert, sound performance, and theatre.

Despre competențele lui Bogdan Zgherea

”... sunt consilier al ministrului Sergiu Prodan și sunt responsabil pentru dezvoltarea proiectului Universul, a viitorului Centru de Cultură și Artă Contemporană Universul.” așa s-a prezentat Bogdan Zgherea la consultările publice organizate de Ministerul Culturii al Republicii Moldova pe marginea creării conceptului Centrului de Cultură și Artă Contemporană „Universul” din 2 august 2024.

Cînd a fost întrebat de una din reprezentantele scenei independente dacă știe ce înseamnă artă contemporană, Bogdan Zgherea a răspuns: ”nu ține de competența mea să știu ce este arta contemporană.”

Crearea centrului Universul presupunea conform declarațiilor fostului Ministru al Culturii, Sergiu Prodan: ”valorificarea celor peste 14.000 de metri pătrați ai viitorului Centru (din totalul de peste 21.000 de metri pătrați ai Editurii „Universul”) în serviciul vieții culturale a capitalei și a țării.”

Iar costurile pentru crearea acestui centru, conform declarației aceluiași ministru ar fi fost de 10 - 15 milioane de euro.

”Potrivit estimărilor, studiul de fezabilitate și alte acte necesare implementării proiectului ar putea fi definitivate timp de un an, iar cheltuielile pentru implementare s-ar ridica la 10-15 milioane de euro, bani identificați de Guvern inclusiv de pe urma vânzării terenului de pe strada Tighina pentru viitorul sediu al Ambasadei SUA în Republica Moldova.”

Care erau competențele lui Bogdan Zgherea cînd a fost ales să coordoneze un proiect care presupunea investiții de 10-15 milioane euro? Probabil cea mai mare investiție în domeniul culturii din ultimii 30 de ani.

Care erau competențele lui Bogdan Zgherea cînd a fost ales să coordoneze un proces care presupunea crearea unei noi instituții? Crearea unei instituții nu înseamnă doar o hotărâre de guvern, dovada este că Oficiul Național de Dezvoltare a Culturii care a fost creat prin hotărâre de guvern în iulie 2024, nici astăzi nu este funcțional.

Care erau competențele lui Bogdan Zgherea cînd a fost ales să coordoneze un proiect în domeniul artei contemporane despre care nu are nicio expertiză?

Bogdan Zgherea coorodona pînă mai ieri procesul de creare a Centrului Universul, întebările de mai sus sunt și pentru ministrul interimar, Cristian Jardan la fel ca și întrebarea: de ce consideră că nu are nevoie de o cunoaștere a artei contemporane, a scenei independente locale? Altfel cm se explică că, consilierele și consilierii săi sunt din toate domeniile posibile mai puțin din cultură și artă contemporană.

Problema nu este doar cm ajung anumiți oameni să ocupe anumite poziții, problema e că se consideră că în gestionarea domeniului culturii poate lucra oricine și nu este nevoie nici de viziune, nici de cunoaștere, nici de experiență. Iar pe cealaltă parte, în sectorul cultural propriu-zis, sunt oameni cu experiență, dedicați, care lucrează la limita precarității, mulți din ei fără a avea siguranța zilei de mîine.

*anul 2026 e anul moratoriului pentru angajarea personalului în toate instituțiile statului. Doar că problema se pare că e nu e câți oameni angajăm dar pe cine angajăm și de ce?

Why are you always asking for money? We are not a bank.

So let me tell you something, Moldova:

You don't have money. But you don't need money to
honour the hundreds of stories of migrant workers from Moldova. Stories we have brought from Eastern Europe to Western Europe. From badante in Italy to construction sites in France, from cleaning s**t on cruise ships to picking Spargel for the German table.
The underpaid jobs. The depression. The pills to just keep one going. The dead bodies repatriated back to Moldova.
These are our people. We have witnessed, archived, preserved, and honoured their lives and deaths. You haven’t.

Instead, you were too busy squeezing a Porsche car into the Museum of Ethnography and Natural History.
No, it was not an exhibition about Porsche's n**i past.

On the 26th of June, in the frame of Theater der Welt festival, Nicoleta Esinencu was awarded the International Theatre Institute Prize / ITI Zentrum Deutschland for her outstanding artistic achievements in international cultural exchange through theatre.

Following a sold out performance of Memory Distortion. M I X T A P E with her collective teatru-spălătorie at Theater der Welt, Nicoleta Esinencu was awarded the International Theatre Institute Prize for her outstanding artistic achievements in international cultural exchange through theatre.

“With teatru-spălătorie, Nicoleta Esinencu has succeeded in developing her own radical theatrical language. This is characterised by her understanding of her own artistic work as part of the injustices and conflicts that are brought to light on stage. She does not place herself or the theatre on the outside, nor does she adopt a seemingly detached, observational stance; instead, she plunges straight into the heart of the glaring injustices – painfully, loudly, unconventionally, abruptly, and irreconcilably...” says Katrin Tiedemann in her tribute to the director.

MEMORY DISTORTION. MIXTAPE von Nicoleta Esinencu und Teatru-spalatorie aus der Republik Moldau ist eine Sound-Performance über Gedächtnisverzerrung und Geschichte als Schleife. Stimmen werden gesampelt, geloopt, überschrieben: Es entsteht ein klangliches Archiv des endlosen Übergangs vom sowjetischen Sozialismus zur neoliberalen Demokratie.

🏆 Übrigens: Gestern (am 26.6.) wurde Nicoleta Esinencu in Chemnitz bei Theater der Welt der Preis des Internationalen Theaterinstituts (ITI Zentrum Deutschland) für ihre Arbeit als transnationale Theaterkünstlerin verliehen.
