Mark Verlan’s second solo exhibition at Lutnița opens Friday, March 6th, at 7 p.m.

“Hello, dear reader, or perhaps viewer. It so happened that, having been born, I was destined to draw. Long ago, very long ago, even before our era, I attended art school, and patient teachers taught me how to hold a pencil. Years passed, the earth revolved around the sun many times, an entire epoch stepped into oblivion, new generations hatched and grew strong, the map of the world changed once again, and I keep wandering somewhere toward a phantom dream, continuing to carry on with my little artistic pursuits — exhibitions, flowers, banquets, pleasant fees, tender women.

And now kind people open my page on the web; I’ll tell you honestly, dear reader, intelligent articles about art have long filled me with a certain nausea. I know nothing, understand little, I simply breathe and simply draw. I am happy, and it pleases me in this life to engage in creativity, and it is slightly more pleasant when sums of money float my way, and thus the chain of pleasures remains unbroken.

Ideas drift into my head, and I quietly do what I do — beyond that, it is unknown to me.”

The upcoming exhibition featuring works by Ana Avram will open on Friday, December 12th at 7 p.m.

“When the inner world folds outward, exposing what is usually protected, its fragility becomes legible. This inversion, like a doll-house worn inside out, with its inner warmth exposed in a dysfunctional transparency to anyone, defines the entry point of Ana Avram’s practice.

Within the presented works, tension is a condition to be witnessed, a state in which opposites coexist without synthesis, while suspense and vulnerability becomes a generative force, functioning as a method of exposure, as if the very act of offering one’s inner world might reconcile what continues to strain.”
