Some deep thinking while setting up the FREE(AK)SHOW - Meet the CURATOR of us FREAKS: the one and only Robinah Nansubuga. Robinah is an independent curator in Uganda. She has curated several solo and group exhibitions in and outside Uganda. Nansubuga was the project manager of 32° East | Ugandan Arts Trust, a centre for contemporary art in Kampala. She has worked for several galleries in Kampala,and has a huge interest in alternative spaces, artistic collaborations and interested in therapeautic form of community creativity. She initiated the traditional Ekyoto (bonfire) an independent project that is a discussion platform for critiquing, confronting and storytelling of the Ugandan traditions. Robinah is a voted committee member of different art forums in Uganda.

Another Free(ak) is joining us this time: Youssef El Yedidi. Né en 1980 a Tanger, interesser pour le chemin autodidacte et de collaboration. Après
un passage en tant que vacataire à l’Institut National des Beaux Arts de Tétouan entre 2005 et 2007. A collaboré dans un voyage collective 'sinEangulo' né a Bamako en 2009 (maniere de creer ensemble, 'sinEangulo' traduit en bambara 'pieds nu') réunissant des artistes de toutes disciplines et origines. Constamment en mouvement entre Europe et l'Afrique, Youssef El Yedidi développe un univers poétique mêlant objets trouvés, installations éphémères, vidéo et film d’animation, interrogeant les notions de frontière et de mobilité. Le détroit de Gibraltar, zone de négociation par excellence, est un motif récurrent de son travail.

Welcome to a new Free(ak) : Karim El Kamli -
le photographe passionné de la Médina.Dès son trés jeune âge, Karim commence à découvrir son engouement pour la photo. Avec une caméra normale et sans trop d'options, il prend des portraits vifs et immortalise des moments très distingués de la vie quotidienne de ses protagonistes.Trés rapidement, il se lance dans la photographie de l'événementiel, des défilés de mode, des expositions d'art, des conférences et bien d'autres activités culturelles et artistiques dans la région du Nord du Maroc sont couvertes par le jeune artiste. Karim décide ensuite de changer de cap et d'aller plus profondément dans la photographie, tout en développant et diversifiant ses méthodes et outils, il entre dans une phase d'expérimentation et de création purement artistique. A Free(ak) on the first sight: Rayka Kobiella is a northern-german born artist and activist, balancing between theater, visual and performance art. The idea of closeness and isolation/ understanding and misunderstanding in the private as well as in the political setting is a topic she follows in her work and culminates in community work against segregation. She has written and/or directed several plays in Germany, UK, NYC and Uganda. Rayka is always seeking for the most coherent way to tell a story and likes to utilize different artistic mediums. She's interested in working with art objects as an inspiration for stories and bringing it together with actual aspects of the culture she's visiting. Free(ak)Show welcomes a new Free(ak) on board: Laureline de Leeuw is a young french designer, based in Paris. So it's getting french here: Son travail s'intéresse aux matériaux, nobles ou déchets, et à leurs potentiels, leurs (re)valorisations. L'interculturalité est une valeur forte de ses projets où artisanat et design se mêlent, sur des territoires différents. Ses objets explorent traditions et savoir-faire.
Après avoir étudié aux beaux-arts, Laureline a pu mettre en application ces problématiques au sein de plusieurs projets, d'Aix-en-Provence à La Réunion, en passant par le Maroc.

FREE(AK) from the first minute - L.I.E.S. aka Jonas Gerberding has been influenced by art since a child. L.I.E.S. means Life Is Extremly Strange, which the artist find easily in every corner in daily life. Influenced by the underground hip hop scenes in the 80’s and early 90’s in Germany, he started to develop his love for graffiti art when he was 14. At first, he followed many graffiti artists in spraying walls illegally under his undercover name “Lies” – a play on the German command “Read this” and the English term. His passion became his life, and he dropped out of high school. Despite not having a high school diploma, he was accepted at the Art Academy of Hamburg, where he graduated 2008. L.I.E.S. works with markers and spraypaint on found objects from the places that he goes.
