In August last year, at the European Championship Akhal Teke France 2025, I met two beautiful stallions and their wonderful owner Lisa Engel Belhage.

The father and son — Mudaris and Amudar — arrived together from Denmark. When stallions live together and the elder raises the younger, it is always a deeply touching theme for me, as it reminds me of my golden stallion and his foals.

I love portraying different horses, but the Akhal-Teke breed holds a special place for me, appearing in my work just as often as my own golden horses. That is why I was truly happy to receive a commission for a joint portrait of father and son — especially since they had already captured my attention when we first met.

When I create a portrait of a single horse, I can learn a great deal about it. But when there are two or more horses in the composition, the hidden layers of their relationship begin to reveal themselves.

Amudar — a young, sunlit palomino stallion — was open to all my suggestions. He accepted any pose, any lighting, and looked at me from the canvas with a kind of innocent curiosity, as if expecting that we were about to start a game.

Mudaris, on the other hand, did not come into contact so easily. There was a sense of depth and wisdom about him. It felt as though I was touching a being that had lived for a very long time, one that had seen more than one life and carried within it the weight of experience and impressions from its journey through them. He seemed rather reserved and not ready for such a close connection right away. It felt as though Mudaris preferred to remain in the shadows, choosing to communicate with me only occasionally — according to some inner rhythm known only to him.
It was not easy to earn his trust, to the point where he would allow himself to be revealed. But connecting with such a horse — even through the act of painting his portrait — is something deeply special and truly valuable to me.

В августе прошлого года на European Championship Akhal Teke France 2025 я познакомилась с двумя прекрасными жеребцами и их чудесной хозяйкой Lisa Engel Belhage

Отец и сын — Мударис и Амудар — приехали вместе из Дании. Когда жеребцы живут вместе, и старший воспитывает младшего, для меня это всегда особенно трепетная тема, потому что напоминает о моём золотом жеребце и его воспитанниках.

Я люблю изображать разных лошадей, но ахалтекинская порода занимает у меня особое место, появляясь, пожалуй, так же часто, как и мои родные золотые лошади. Поэтому мне было очень приятно получить заказ на совместный портрет отца и сына. Тем более что они привлекли моё внимание ещё во время нашей встречи.

Когда я создаю портрет одной лошади, я могу многое узнать о ней, но если в работе две или больше лошадей, то открываются и тайны их отношений.

Амудар — юный солнечный жеребец соловой масти — был готов на все мои предложения. Он и на любую позу соглашался, и освещением одобрял, наивно смотря на меня с холста, словно ожидая, что мы сейчас будем во что-то играть.

Мударис же не шёл на контакт так легко. От него исходило ощущение глубины и мудрости. Словно я прикасалась к какому-то существу, живущему очень долго, которое видело не одну жизнь и несёт с собой багаж знаний и впечатлений от своего пути сквозь эти жизни. Он показался мне достаточно закрытым и не готовым сразу идти на столь близкий контакт. Казалось, что Мударис предпочитает оставаться в тени и общаться со мной лишь изредка — по какому-то своему, только ему известному расписанию.

Мне было непросто добиться его расположения, чтобы он поверил и согласился показать себя. Но контакт с такой лошадью, пусть даже через создание её портрета, — это особые ощущения и большая ценность для меня.
