🔹MEET THE YOUTH PROGRAMME TEACHER🔹

ARTURS NIGALIS

Arturs Nigalis is an experienced dancer and choreographer from Latvia. He received a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance from the Latvian Academy of Culture. Arturs has been working as a professional dancer since 2018 and made his debut as a choreographer in 2023. In 2025, his duet “Silhouette Letters,” created with Marīte Supe, was selected for the European dance platform “Aerowaves” as one of 21 works by emerging choreographers, making him the first Latvian representative on this platform. As a result, the performance was presented at the “Spring Forward” festival in Italy/Slovenia, the “HOROS” festival in Aizpute, the “Homo Novus” festival in Valmiera, the “FIDCMX” festival in Mexico, and a contemporary performance festival in Lithuania. For his work “Silhouette Letters” he received the Latvian Dance Award 2023–2024 for Best Contemporary Dance Choreographer. As a dance educator, he has led masterclasses for professional dancers as part of the “Embody Riga” initiative in Latvia, as well as at the contemporary dance festival in Cancún, Mexico (August 2025).

CHASING SPIRALS

In this workshop, movement arises from spirals—starting from various parts of the body and spreading throughout the entire system. The spine plays a central role here: it is not only the main connector but also a generator of movement and continuity. When the spine moves, it affects the smaller rotators, which in turn affect even finer structures—like a chain reaction spreading throughout the body. We will work on understanding how spirals influence speed, mobility, and the body’s ability to adapt and maintain movement. Significant attention will be given to how movement can travel, change direction, or build momentum based on the initiation of a spiral.

💡Young dancers age 12-15 are welcome to join Riga/ON Youth Programme (free series of contemporary dance classes MAY 1th-4th 11:00-13:00)
