TUR_telpa is looking to continue enriching Riga's contemporary art scene by working closely with their selected artists to create high quality, curated art exhibitions. Collaborating with the distinctive characteristic of the space - which refers to both the traditional white cube and the building's industrial past - artists are invited to create new work and encouraged to experiment beyond what m

ight be their conventional practice. Interdisciplinary exchange is also a primary goal of TUR_telpa and events are programmed that bring new perspectives on the ideas behind the exhibitions, seeking crossovers into different disciplines. Finally, TUR_telpa seeks to engage an audience beyond the traditional “art bubble” and is uniquely situated on Tallinas ielas kvartāls to do so, creating a low threshold for passersby and integrating a meeting place within the presentation space ideal for conversations, workshops and other forms of exchange.

For each exhibition, TUR invites the artist to develop an Exhibition Edition: a series of ten works that exist alongside the exhibition and respond to it. The edition supports the artist by supplementing their income through sales, while also contributing to the activities of TUR. For collectors and those new to collecting, the Exhibition Edition opens up a low-threshold way to engage with contemporary art, offering a work that carries a meaningful part of the exhibition at TUR, always priced at no more than €100 for the duration of the exhibition.

For their Exhibition Edition Inga Meldere and Elīna Vītola made 10+1 unique frescoes for “Women’s Structures.” Some are still available and can be purchased during the exhibition for 100€. Each is unique so it might be best to drop by and take a look yourself!

Very excited to introduce TUR’s artist in residence for August, Kristina Savutsina! She is a Belarusian filmmaker and visual artist based in Germany. Working across various media, she explores the traces and symptoms of regulatory politics and normativity inscribed on bodies, as well as the manifestations of toxicity. She studied at the Minsk State University of Culture and Arts, the University of Fine Arts Hamburg, and completed an exchange semester at the State University of New York.
Her work, including the acclaimed film Khan’s Flesh, has been presented at renowned international film festivals such as Visions du Réel and exhibited at cultural institutions including HKW Berlin, Oslo Cinematheque, the Photography Museum Braunschweig, and Kunsthaus Hamburg.
Born in Riga to a Belarusian family, she will use her time at the residency to retrace sites connected to her childhood and visit Latvia’s region bordering Belarus. This artistic research will generate visual, sonic, and material traces that will inform a future video installation exploring belonging, memory, and displacement as experiences shaped by geopolitical rupture and embodied histories.

This residency is supported by the Latvian State Culture Capital Foundation Valsts kultūrkapitāla fonds and by the European Union, implemented by the Goethe-Institut.

Introducing our next artist Inga Meldere! Her exhibition “Sievietes būve” (Women’s Structures), made in collaboration with Elīna Vītola opens on July 9th at 18:00.

Inga Meldere is a Latvian artist based in Finland whose practice spans painting, installation, and site-responsive environments. Through personal histories, vernacular traditions, and material culture, her work explores the ways memory, everyday life, and inherited knowledge shape contemporary experience. She has presented solo exhibitions at institutions and galleries including KIM? Contemporary Art Centre (Riga), Temnikova & Kasela (Tallinn), Helsinki Contemporary, and Pech (Vienna), and has participated in major international exhibitions including the Helsinki Biennial, KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art, KUMU Art Museum, and the Latvian National Museum of Art. Meldere’s work is held in the collections of KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art, the Finnish State Art Collection, the Latvian National Museum of Art, Zuzeum Art Centre, and other public and private collections.

Introducing our next artist Elīna Vītola! Her exhibition “Sievietes būve” (Women’s Structures), made in collaboration with Inga Meldere opens on July 9th at 18:00.

Elīna Vītola is a Riga-based artist whose practice encompasses painting, installation, and collaborative projects. Working at the intersection of contemporary painting and everyday life, her work explores the material, social, and psychological structures that shape lived experience, often combining humour, observation, and speculative narratives. She has presented solo exhibitions at institutions and galleries including Kogo Gallery (Tartu), ARSENĀLS (Riga), Galerie Emila Filly (Ústí nad Labem), and Liste Art Basel. A finalist for the Purvītis Prize in 2021 and recipient of the Nordic & Baltic Young Artist Award in 2018, Vītola’s work is held in the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art and the European Patent Office, among others.

After last year’s Anatomy of a Busy Line, TUR is delighted to collaborate once again with Katrīna Biksone, whose practice has attracted increasing attention in recent years. From 2-5 July, TUR returns to Riga Contemporary with “Thresholds of Bloom,” Biksone’s new solo project created especially for the event. In an age when linear narratives of progress feel increasingly unstable, Biksone turns to repetition, seasonal rhythms, and processes of return as a way of rethinking how change is experienced. In Biksone’s paintings, change does not unfold as a linear progression or dramatic rupture. Instead, forms reappear in altered states, carrying traces of what came before. References to the cycle of the seasons weave throughout the works: spring nudges winter aside, leaves emerge where frost once settled, and light seems to borrow its colour from autumn. Through subtle shifts in image, material, and atmosphere, Biksone invites us to experience change as something continuous, partial, and quietly transformative.
Biksone’s practice is grounded in painting and extends into object and spatial installation. Her work develops through a painterly logic, where images, forms, and materials are tested, adjusted, and reconfigured over time. Her work explores how painting can shape environments and how materials, objects, and spaces participate in emotional experience. She graduated with a BA in Painting from the Art Academy of Latvia in 2023 and completed her MA in POST in 2025. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally and her work is in the collection of several prominent institutions, including the Latvian National Museum of Art and Zuzeum. Her work has been recognised with the SEB Painting Scholarship (2023), the Nordic and Baltic Young Artist Award (2023), and the Linstow Art Award (2025).
