TUR_telpa is looking to continue enriching Riga's contemporary art scene by working closely with their selected artists to create high quality, curated art exhibitions. Collaborating with the distinctive characteristic of the space - which refers to both the traditional white cube and the building's industrial past - artists are invited to create new work and encouraged to experiment beyond what might be their conventional practice. Interdisciplinary exchange is also a primary goal of TUR_telpa and events are programmed that bring new perspectives on the ideas behind the exhibitions, seeking crossovers into different disciplines. Finally, TUR_telpa seeks to engage an audience beyond the traditional “art bubble” and is uniquely situated on Tallinas ielas kvartāls to do so, creating a low threshold for passersby and integrating a meeting place within the presentation space ideal for conversations, workshops and other forms of exchange.

Welcome to TUR’s October artists in residence, Johanna Trudzinski and Lieven Segers! They are Antwerp-based artists and, together with Frank Olbrechts, the people behind the artist-run space AAIMACHINE. Trudzinski has a background in fashion design and works across scenography, costume, fashion and visual art. Segers works with drawing, text, sculpture, installation and performance, often involving other people and allowing their contributions to become part of the work. Their work with AAIMACHINE brings different artists, practices and generations together, with the exhibition itself becoming part of how these relationships take form.
At TUR, Trudzinski and Segers join Edd Schouten in the development of the Fall exhibition, which opens November 4th, a collaboration between AAIMACHINE and TUR bringing together contributions from 100 artists from Antwerp and Riga.

Created especially for ArtVilnius, Prussian Green, Persian Red brings together a new series of paintings taking the names of two colours as its point of departure. Across the works, Persian Red and Prussian Green appear in different shades and under various titles, while carrying echoes of places and cultures whose past continues to shift into the present. The paintings bring these two colours into proximity without establishing a fixed relationship between them. Their placement throughout the booth extends this ambiguity into the space itself, allowing connections, tensions and coincidences to emerge between individual works. Colour remains the constant throughout, shifting between image, material and title, while the spaces between the paintings are left open to potential meaning.

Kaļiņins’ practice is rooted in the materiality of painting, often taking the paint itself as the starting point for a series of works. A particular colour, its name and its physical properties can provide the initial premise, from which the painting is allowed to develop. He describes paint as the protagonist, giving the material a degree of agency rather than using it simply as a means to construct an image. This allows conceptual framing to remain closely tied to the act and material of painting, while leaving the resulting works open enough to carry associations beyond their original premise.

Andris Kaļiņins (Balvi, 1994) holds a BA in scenography and an MA in painting from the Art Academy of Latvia and has established himself as one of the Baltics’ most distinctive emerging artists. His solo exhibitions include Andris Kaļiņins’ Oil Painting at Jūrmala Museum and Weißer Saal at TUR, and group exhibitions have shown his work in Latvia and internationally. His paintings are represented in the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art, Signet Bank and Zuzeum, as well as several prominent private collections. Most recently, Kaļiņins was awarded the Young Painter Prize 2026, following both the jury and audience awards of the SEB Painting Scholarship in 2025.

TUR is very happy to be bringing Andris Kaļiņins to ArtVilnius 2026! ARTVILNIUS Art Fair

Andris is a Latvian painter and scenographer whose work moves between painting, installation and exhibition-making. Paint itself often takes the leading role in his work, with the names of colours, their properties and histories becoming departure points for new works.

His work is held in the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art, Signet Bank and Zuzeum, as well as several notable private collections. In 2025 he received both the jury and audience awards of the SEB Painting Scholarship, and just this month he was awarded the Young Painter Prize Young Painter Prize.

For ArtVilnius, Kaļiņins has developed a new series of paintings, “Prussian Green, Persian Red.” The series brings together two colours named after places that no longer exist, but whose names still echo into the present. Across the paintings, Persian Red and Prussian Green appear in different shades and under various titles. Colour remains the constant throughout, shifting between image, material and title, suggesting associations without fixing meaning.

Available at TUR. Anda Lāce created 10 unique miniature paintings as an Exhibition Edition. Each one is unique and 90€.

For each exhibition, TUR invites the artist to develop an Exhibition Edition: a series of ten works that exist alongside the exhibition and respond to it. The edition supports the artist by supplementing their income through sales, while also contributing to the activities of TUR. For collectors and those new to collecting, the Exhibition Edition opens up a low-threshold way to engage with contemporary art, offering a work that carries a meaningful part of the exhibition at TUR, always priced at no more than €100 for the duration of the exhibition.

KKC and TUR present a special screening of the artistic documentary Khan’s Flesh, followed by a conversation with its director, Kristina Savutsina.

Khan’s Flesh is a contemporary document of life in the small Belarusian town of Celiakhany. A static camera witnesses a series of events taking place within institutions, resulting in a collage-like portrait of the province. The priest’s ear recognises the sins of the parishioners. The heartbeat of a fetus is monitored. Workers leave the factory. Daily activities are portrayed as choreographies within stage-like images, while the images’ strict tableau style reveals the surreal theatricality of an institutionally shaped everyday life.

Kristina Savutsina is a Belarusian filmmaker and visual artist based in Germany. Working across various media, she explores the traces and symptoms of regulatory politics and normativity inscribed on bodies, as well as the manifestations of toxicity. She studied at the Minsk State University of Culture and Arts, the University of Fine Arts Hamburg, and completed an exchange semester at the State University of New York. Her work, including Khan’s Flesh, has been presented at renowned international film festivals such as Visions du Réel and exhibited at cultural institutions including HKW Berlin, Oslo Cinematheque, the Photography Museum Braunschweig, and Kunsthaus Hamburg.

Kristina Savutsina is artist-in-residence at TUR throughout August. Her stay is supported by the Latvian State Culture Capital Foundation Valsts kultūrkapitāla fonds and by the European Union, implemented by the Goethe-Institut.

The conversation following the screening will take place in English.
