ACT MontAlbania, Day 5&6

The morning started somewhere high above a quiet mountain valley… waking up in a hammock with a view you just can’t plan πŸŒ„

First stop β€” Berat Castle. A bit of history, a moment to take it all in… and then straight back into the mountains.
Riding through the Fir of Hotova-DangΓ«lli National Park was something else β€” steep gravel switchbacks, washed-out tracks, and drops that don’t forgive mistakes. πŸ˜…
Somewhere along the way β€” a massive herd crossing the road. No rush, just real life in the mountains.
Near Kadiu Bridge β€” crowds, tourists, chaos… a complete contrast to the wild we came from.

And just 300 meters before the finish β€” flat tire.
Caused by a sharp bone on the road.
Luckily, I was ready. Fixed it. Kept riding.
That’s adventure β€” you never really know how the day will end 🏍️

Day 2 β€” Crossing borders and chasing the unexpected πŸοΈβ›°οΈ

The day started with a border crossing into Albania β€” saying goodbye to Montenegro’s wild beauty and heading straight into the unknown. A new country, new roads, new stories waiting ahead.

On the way to Koplik, there was no chance we’d skip the Rrapsh Serpentine β€” insanely twisty, perfectly flowing and absolutely worth every stop. One of those roads you have to ride.

Crossing into Albania also meant a practical stop β€” Koplik was the first nearby place to get local currency. Small details, big difference on a long adventure.

Riding through the stunning Theth National Park, the weather suddenly turned against us. A massive thunderstorm with hail and heavy rain rolled in β€” but luck was on our side. We managed to take cover in a small roadside cafΓ©, watching the storm pass just meters away. 🌧️⚑

Later that day, we reached a suspension bridge. I launched the drone to capture the moment… and of course, when things aren’t supposed to happen β€” they do. The drone decided to perform an emergency landing right above the river.
Somehow, it was rescued just 20 cm above the water. The drone survived, I got soaked, but with +30Β°C outside β€” it felt more refreshing than dramatic. πŸ˜…

By evening, we rolled into Guri i Zi for the night.
239 km done on Day 2, reaching a high point of 1,650 m above sea level β€” a full day of riding, surprises and memories.

Day 1 β€” Warming up in the Montenegrin mountains πŸοΈβ›°οΈ

Our first ACT day started in Ε½abljak β€” and it didn’t take long for the trail to remind us what the Balkans are made of.
Right at the beginning, we hit a steep, rocky double-track descent that had us sweating in the first minutes of the ride. No gentle warm-up here. πŸ˜…

As we continued, the moments between the rough sections got more peaceful β€” including the classic Balkan encounter: a big herd of sheep casually blocking the trail, grazing in the mountain fields like they owned the place. πŸ‘
Just part of the charm of riding through Montenegro.

Once we rolled past Ε avnik and KolaΕ‘in, the landscape opened into those classic Montenegrin views β€” endless mountains, quiet valleys and the kind of roads that make you forget about the outside world.

By evening we reached the Komovi area, where we paused at the Konjic viewpoint β€” a perfect spot to breathe in the altitude and enjoy the last light of the day.
A total of 180 km for Day 1 β€” more than enough to feel that the adventure had truly begun. πŸ”₯

Throwback from 2025 ACT Montenegro/Albania trip. Another check in my ACT book.

So...
Before the mountains, gravel, river crossings and endless Balkan views β€” our journey began right here in Riga/Latvia.
Our bikes were getting prepped at logistics, safely packed and shipped to Sofia, Bulgaria. That moment when the crates closed felt like the real start of the adventure. 🏍️✈️

From Sofia, we set off for 8 unforgettable days across Montenegro and Albania, following the ACT route through some of the most raw and beautiful landscapes in the Balkans. ⛰️πŸ”₯
Looking back now, this was the calm before the storm β€” the excitement, the unknown, and that feeling that something epic is just ahead.

Day 8 – Dust, Mountains & Closure

Our final day of riding through Morocco. πŸ‡²πŸ‡¦πŸοΈπŸŒ
We left Taliouine and made our way back to Marrakech, crossing yet another dramatic ridge of the Atlas Mountains via the legendary Tizi’n’Test pass. β›°οΈπŸ‡²πŸ‡¦πŸ’¨
The ride was long, dusty, and intense. The entire mountain road is currently under construction – with excavators, road rollers, and blasting machines shaping a new path through the rock. Add in strong winds and massive dust clouds, and at times we could barely see the road ahead. πŸš§πŸ’¨πŸŒ«οΈ

We also crossed Al Haouz, the region devastated by the 8th September 2023 earthquake – the strongest in Morocco’s modern history. Seeing the collapsed villages up close was heartbreaking. It was a powerful and sobering reminder of the human stories behind these landscapes. πŸ’”πŸ‡²πŸ‡¦πŸ™

Still, with hope and gratitude, we pushed forward – and by late afternoon, after winding down the last majestic views of the Atlas Mountains, we rolled into Marrakech.
1,550 km later, our journey is complete. πŸπŸ‘
What a ride. 🀩🏍️🌍
But the biggest joy? Seeing my amazing wife embrace the world of motorcycle travel – a new chapter of our adventures has begun. ❀️‍πŸ”₯🏍️

And thanks to for providing us with brand new Royal Enfield 450s. They were carrying us all the way. No issue.
