Lašiem oktobris ir viens no svarīgākajiem brīžiem gadā – nārsta laiks 🐟
3. oktobra saulaino sestdienu pavadījām dažādās ar ekoloģijas tēmu saistītās aktivitātēs – orientēšanās spēlē, meistarklasē, diskusijā un dienas noslēguma koncertā.
Dienas sākumā aicinājām jauniešus uzminēt, izzināt un sajust orientēšanās spēlē un pēcāk zinātnieka Dāvja Ozoliņa pavadībā iepazināmies ar Ventu un tās ūdeni tuvplānā – ieskatījāmies ūdenī un tajā mītošajos mikro- un makroorganismos 🦠
Pēc spēles kopā ar arhitektēm Mariju Katrīnu Dambi un Emīliju Ozoliņu pasākuma organizatori un apmeklētāji meklēja atbildes uz dažādiem jautājumiem: Kā uzbūvēt kaut ko tā, lai daba pēc tam neprasītu “Un kurš jums atļāva?” Kā radīt kultūrvietu, kas dzīvo ne tikai vienu īpaši organizēta koncerta vakaru, bet ir noderīga arī parastā otrdienā?
Sarunas beigās uz galda jau bija vesels bariņš dažādu ideju – ko šajā vietā varētu darīt, kā to padarīt dzīvu arī ikdienā un ko no visa tā patiešām vajadzētu īstenot.
Visas dienas garumā mūsu garšas kārpiņas lutināja Nata Cafe ✨
Vakarā, kad sarunas bija izrunātas, skatuve iezīmēta, Ventas mazie iemītnieki apskatīti – atlika tas, kāpēc “Lašu dziesmas” tomēr sauc par dziesmām. Jaunajā kultūrvietā pie Ventas vakaru noslēdza Aigars Reinis pie ērģelēm, Ernests Mediņš ar sitaminstrumentiem un vokālais trio – Zane Zilberte, Evita Taranda un Marika Austruma. Skanēja arī pirmatskaņojumi, tostarp Ernesta Mediņa jaundarbs, un koncertā ienāca arī kaut kas pavisam tuvs – tepat Kurzemē sakņotas balsis, skaņas un stāsti.
Bet ar šo nekas nebeidzas. Laši katru gadu atgriežas. “Lašu dziesmas” nu jau arī.
Nākošreiz tiksimies 2027. gada 9., 16. un 23. oktobrī ✨
“Lašu dziesmas” ir ilgtermiņa kultūras un vides projekts, kas apvieno mākslu, dabu, kopienas līdzdalību un jaunas publiskās telpas attīstību.
Pasākums tiek īstenots projekta “Liepāja – Eiropas kultūras galvaspilsēta 2027” programmas ietvaros, izmantojot Liepājas valstspilsētas, Dienvidkurzemes un Kuldīgas novadu un Kultūras ministrijas piešķirto finansējumu.

Salmon Songs | In Kuldīga ✨
For salmon, October is one of the most important times of the year – spawning season 🐟
On the sunny Saturday of 3rd of October, we spent the day taking part in a range of ecology-themed activities – an orienteering game, a workshop, a discussion, and an evening concert to close the day.
At the start of the day, we invited young people to guess, explore, and experience through the orienteering game, and later, together with scientist Dāvis Ozoliņš, we got to know the Venta and its water up close – peering into the river and discovering the micro and macro organisms that live there 🦠
After the game, together with architects Marija Katrīna Dambe and Emīlija Ozoliņa, the event organisers and visitors looked for answers to a range of questions: How do you build something without nature later asking, “And who gave you permission?” How do you create a cultural space that lives not only for one specially organised concert, but is also useful on an ordinary Tuesday? By the end of the conversation, the table was already full of ideas – what could happen in this place, how to keep it alive in everyday life, and which of those ideas should actually be brought to life.

In the evening, once the conversations were had, the stage was marked out, and Venta’s tiny inhabitants observed – we could enjoy a beautiful concert.
At the new cultural space by the Venta, we enjoyed beautiful music with Aigars Reinis on organ, Ernests Mediņš on percussion, and a vocal trio – Zane Zilberte, Evita Taranda, and Marika Austruma. The musical programme also featured world premieres, including some new work by Ernests Mediņš, and the concert welcomed something deeply close to home too – voices, sounds, and stories rooted right here in Kurzeme.
But this is not the end. The salmon return every year. Now, so does “Salmon Songs”.
We’ll meet again on October 9, 16, and 23, 2027 ✨
“Salmon Songs” is a long-term culture and environmental project that brings together art, nature, community participation, and the development of new public space.The event is being implemented as part of the programme of the Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 project, using funding granted by Liepāja State City, South Kurzeme Region, Kuldīga Region, and the Ministry of Culture.
