🗣️OPEN CALL for short term group VOLUNTEERS in Sansusī.

Give support to an organisation and people associated with culture, event production, festival, wellbeing residencies and wilderness.
📍Aknīste, Latvia
🗓️July 8 - August 13, 2026 (includes 2 travel days, up to 4 more for green travellers)
💪For sixteen volunteers living in EU and other ESC program countries not needing visa for 35 day period

Are you a young person who wants to live for 35 days in Latvian countryside (read "almost middle of nowhere"), work together with an amazing volunteer group, build festival, cooperate with contemporary artists, be part of the local community, create your own creative endeavours or do what is close to your artistic heart? And be part of creating an incredible music and arts festival?
In this project you can learn:
💪 practical skills on taking care and improving of a remote residence center
🌱 deliver workshops for other volunteers and for local community
🎶 learn more about professional cultural event production
🪢 increase skills in communication and community building
🙌 boost self-belief in your own unique abilities
We look for people who are:
👉18-30 year old
👉Live / reside in EU or ESC program countries not needing visa for project period
👉Very keen or with background in culture and arts (especially contemporary arts - dance, music, theatre, circus, interdisciplinary etc)
👉Creative and eager to learn
👉Want to do physical things - build, renovate, clean or move structures around
👉Ready to experience festival creating magic as we will have our annual Sansusī festival on August 7-9 (it will be crowded)

Brīdinām: iebraucot Sansusī teritorijā, iespējama laika izjūtas pazušana, nejauša iemīlēšanās kamermūzikā un dejošana mežā .

Prieks būt šīs vasaras festivālu izlasē.

Par festivālu ierasti saucam pasākumu, kas norisinās vismaz divas dienas un paredz nakšņošanu. Taču mūsdienās, kad festivāli notiek arī pilsētā, tie var izstiepties mēneša garumā vai vienā vakarā...

Ko mēs uzzinājām 25.04. rīkojot savu iepazīšanās pasākumu projektam “Lašu dziesma” Kuldīgā? Tieši šo - 70% Ventas Lašu populācijas uztur tieši šādā veidā! Arī to, ka maluzvejniecība Kuldīgas posmā ir gandrīz izskausta, bet ne citos Ventas posmos, tāpēc turpinām bļaustīties par tēmu, kā reiz viens žurnālists nosauca šo aktīvisma veidu!

[LV] Pirmajā siltajā nedēļas nogalē Sansusī teritorijā atkal atgriezās kustība — cilvēki ieradās savā ritmā, iesaistījās darbos un metās iekšā ar vieglumu, humoru un to īpašo kopābūšanas sajūtu, kas iezīmē sezonas sākumu.

Rezidenču centrā notika ģenerālā tīrīšana, un kupols nu ir gatavs uzņemt vasaras rezidentus — telpa attīrīta, sakārtota un gaidoša. Pamazām top arī jaunā telšu pilsētiņa, arvien tuvāk liekot sajust augusta festivāla noskaņu.

Šī talka bija arī iespēja mācīties — līdzās darbiem notika santehnikas meistarklase, kurā apguvām ūdens pieslēgumu un kanalizācijas sistēmu pamatus, izmēģinājām podu stiprināšanu un maisītāju nomaiņu.

Divas dienas paskrēja vienā elpas vilcienā — starp darbiem kopā gatavojām siltus veģetāros ēdienus, un kopgalds atkal kļuva par vietu sarunām un vienkāršai kopābūšanai.

Vakara noslēgumā, pulcējot arī skatītājus no Aknīste, piedzīvojām darbizrādi “VAI VIENI?” — divas kokles izstāstīja attiecību stāstu ar kāpumiem un kritumiem, atklājot brāļa un māsas saiknes trauslumu un spēku. Pēc izrādes dalījāmies iespaidos un sarunās par to, ko katram šis stāsts atvēra un atgādināja.

Divas dienas, kurās paveicām daudz un piedzīvojām vēl vairāk — Sansusī pamazām ieelpo vasaras ritmu.

[ENG] During the first warm weekend, movement returned once again to the grounds of Sansusī — people arrived in their own rhythm, joined the work, and immersed themselves with ease, humour, and that special sense of togetherness that marks the beginning of the season.

At the residency centre, a thorough spring cleaning took place, and the dome is now ready to welcome summer residents — the space has been cleaned, organised, and is waiting to come alive. Meanwhile, the new tent village is slowly taking shape, bringing the feeling of the August festival ever closer.

This gathering was also a chance to learn — alongside the practical work, a plumbing workshop took place where we learned the basics of water connections and sewage systems, tried installing toilets, and replacing taps.

The two days passed in a single breath — between tasks we cooked warm vegetarian meals together, and the communal table once again became a place for conversations and simple togetherness.

At the end of the evening, joined by visitors from Aknīste, we experienced the work-performance “ARE WE ALONE?” — two kokles told a story of relationships through ups and downs, revealing both the fragility and strength of the bond between brother and sister. After the performance, we shared reflections and conversations about what the story awakened and reminded us of personally.

Two days in which we accomplished a lot and experienced even more — Sansusī is slowly breathing into the rhythm of summer.

The event took place within the framework of the project “Through the Dark Muddy Roads of Sēlija” with the support of the Society Integration Foundation.
