Tunnels III is part of The Tunnels series which explores landscape as a space where perception is continually shaped through movement, memory, and sustained attention. Working between abstraction and representation, the paintings are not depictions of specific locations but responses to the experience of passing through spaces that resist immediate recognition. Built through successive layers of paint, each work balances revelation and concealment, allowing forms to emerge, dissolve, and reappear. Rather than presenting fixed images, the series invites viewers to navigate shifting relationships between landscape, atmosphere, and memory, discovering meaning through prolonged looking.
Tunnels III extends this exploration through a diptych in which continuity is deliberately disrupted. Although the two panels share related forms, colour, and atmosphere, they resist a seamless connection. The gap between them becomes an active space, prompting the viewer to search for relationships that remain unresolved. This interruption reflects the way places become familiar not through certainty but through repeated encounters and changing perspectives. As viewers move between the two panels, perception itself becomes part of the work, inviting reflection on how landscapes are experienced, remembered, and gradually understood.
