On 6 March 2026, 7pm, ‘Apparatus Pinokis’, an exhibition by Kristaps Ancāns and Marc Hulson, opens at apiece as the latest in a series of their collaborative sculptural works.

A dense aggregate of enigmatic structures is arranged within the vitrine-like frame of the apiece gal-lery, combining industrial steel elements, kinetic components, and found domestic furniture into a qua-si-abstract diorama reminiscent of a cluttered inventor’s or magician’s workshop. Populated by hybrid effigies—handcrafted wooden objects that reference the human form while resembling oversized toys or balloons—the installation evokes a minimalist, mechanised puppet theatre. An implied narrative un-folds, yet it remains unclear whether something is being dismantled or assembled: an automaton under construction, or the autopsy of a puppet. The exhibition title, echoing the archetype of Pinokis (Pinoc-chio), revisits paradigms of an object becoming a subject.

Kristaps Ancāns is an artist and educator working across installation, sculpture, text, and augmented reality (AR). His practice explores the relationships between humankind, materiality, nature, and ma-chines through conceptual play, tracing historical and structural connections between art and science.

Marc Hulson is a London-based visual artist. Informed by a longstanding engagement with experi-mental, speculative, and supernatural fiction, his paintings and drawings chart a distinctly pictorial and personal field of the weird, alternating between the spectral and the visceral within a densely interwo-ven lexicon of imagery.

On December 17 at 6 PM, the monumental artist Nijolė Vilutytė’s exhibition ‘Wave after Wave’ opens at the apiece gallery.

Vilutytė created a significant three-part stained-glass work called Saulės takas (Path of the Sun) and accompanying frescoes in Palanga during 1991-92, coinciding with Lithuania’s independence. These works were integrated into the seaside architectural complex, which linked interior spaces to the coastal landscape, symbolizing artistic expression and national freedom.

In 2025, plans to demolish the original building raised concerns about the preservation of monumental art in Lithuania. Though the stained-glass work was saved, it highlighted broader issues of copyright protection and the undervaluation of early independent artworks.

In this exhibition at apiece, the stained glass transforms from an interior element into a dismantled installation, reflecting on evolving concepts of freedom and heritage. This shift allows for new narratives about history, identity, and artistic autonomy.

Nijolė Vilutytė, born in 1947, is renowned for her monumental works spanning religious and public spaces. Her practice features mythological themes and dynamic compositions, with her works also included in major Lithuanian art collections.
