Humans of Monrovia Shamelessly inspired by a similar page, this is an attempt to highlight the thoughts and stories of the humans on the street in Monrovia.

The stories told by the people are not direct quotes, it's a compilation of a conversation. I will try to post a couple of stories a week. So keep an eye out!

Dr. George Manneh Weah, on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 was awarded Sierra Leone’s prestigious honor, The Most Distinguished Grand Commander of the Republic of Sierra Leone. The Liberian Leader was also hailed for fostering peaceful coexistence and his service to humanity.

President Weah received the honor during Sierra Leone’s 60th Independence Day celebrations in Freetown on April 27, 2021.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monrovia, April 22, 2021: The Government of Liberia is deeply concerned over an incident where some men believed to be Liberians launched an armed attack on a military barrack in neighboring Cote d'Ivoire. Passports and other documents purportedly belonging to the assailants which depict Liberian nationality were put on display by Ivorian authorities.

The Liberian government strongly condemns any act which disrupts the peace of its neighbors and the region as a whole.

The government reiterates its commitment to ensuring that no inch of its territory is used as a launchpad for insurrection.

The government has initiated contacts with its Ivorian counterpart in order to determine the full extent of the reported incident. Additionally, both governments have committed to strengthening the joint border surveillance mechanism.

The administration of President George M. Weah has worked tirelessly to build on the sisterly relationship the country has with the Cote d' Ivoire, including the President's personal connections with Ivorian leaders.

The Liberian government recognizes that conflict in any of the Mano River Union countries doesn't serve the best interest of Liberia.

President Weah has therefore announced his intention to shortly dispatch a delegation to Cote d'Ivoire to meet with the ivorian authorities.

Pres. Weah Wishes Muslims Well During Ramadan … Asks Allah to Answer Their Prayers

(April 13, 2021: Monrovia, Liberia): Statement by the President of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, to Muslims in connection with the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan this year:

The Chairman and Officers of the National Muslim Council of Liberia;
All Muslims Residing in Liberia;
Fellow Liberians:
Asalamualaikum ya Muslim jamat

A Happy & Blessed Ramadan to All Muslims
Every year, about this time, Muslims across the length and breadth of Liberia join other Muslims around the world to observe the Holy month of Ramadan in seeking Allah’s blessings upon their lives.

This is the time they offer fast and prayers for his guidance upon their families and seek his forgiveness.

Muslims in Liberia have played a critical role in forging unity, promoting peace and contributing towards economic growth and national development.

They have impacted the fabric of the Liberian society in positive ways; and remain a major religious bloc of our Country.

Their footprints of goodwill and patriotism remain conspicuous for all to see.

Today, as you embark on your sacred journey, on behalf of the Government and People of Liberia, and in my own name, I wish all Muslims in Liberia a Happy and Blessed Ramadan.

It is my prayer that Allah will answer your prayers and grant you the desires of your hearts.

I am certain that this Holy Month of Ramadan will give you a new sense of nationalism and renewed hope in contributing your quota to Nation building; and to the promotion of peace and unity within our society.

A Happy & Blessed Ramadan to All Muslims!
