Christians voting for Musa Bility is like chickens voting for KFC
The emergence of Musa Bility's CMC has introduced a potent new element into Liberian politics, framed around a religious transformation of the state. While exercising his right to campaign, his past record with FIFA and his openly stated goal of creating an "Islamist state" is telling.
It tells Christian voters to carefully consider the movement's vision against the backdrop of our nation's secular history, democratic values, and commitment to pluralism as the 2029 election cycle begins.
Musa Bility will be the most anti Christian politician to run for the Executive Mansion. The unjustified certification by Minister of Justice/National Election Commission to Musa Bility even after he had been found guilty of economy crimes by external actors (FIFA) is outrageous.
When you have a Selective Justice scheme, that does not investigate/interrogate certain actors or prosecute them if liable, that untouchable criminal ultimately aspire to go higher. Now, Musa Bility is off the hook, contesting a Presidential post. Yes, he’s a Liberian, and it is his right to do so. But speaking publicly about imposing Islam on Liberians if elected is absolutely ridiculous and disgusting.
CMC Identifies itself as a movement rather than a formal political party. During his last visit to the United States while meeting with the Liberian Muslim Community, Bility stated“We can sell our religion, we are the most Labour faith in the world. We can bring that to bear on the Liberian society. We can change Liberia with Islam and we can make Liberians to look at Islam differently”
But what’s different about Islam and why Islam isn’t agreeable with “Liberia Freedom and Justice for All. Islam is rooted in divine revelation and religious doctrine, guiding both spiritual and social life, while democracy is grounded in human sovereignty and the political philosophy that governance should reflect the will of its people.
Bility statement raises a critical question about the compatibility of an Islamist political project with Liberia's democratic framework. The Former Liberian Football Association president, who was banned from all FIFA activities for stealing the organisation’s money meant to save lives in Liberia, and later lost his appeal, is now using Liberia already split political culture to install Islamist ideology.
Liberia was built on the principles of democracy and justice for all. What Musa Bility isn’t disclosing to his Christians followers, is how the party CMC DO NOT support democracy but rather supremacy. Bility vision represents a fundamental shift from Liberia’s national motto, "The Love of Liberty Brought Us Here," and our foundational principles of "freedom and justice for all" in a secular republic.
