On 15 March Kobe at Water’s Edge celebrated their 6th anniversary. It was a super evening with delicious food as always.
I’ve dined at Kobe several times and enjoyed them all, the midweek buffet and the teppan dinner cooked in front of us. Manager Anil and team are wonderful, welcoming hosts so when I heard about a celebratory buffet I was there!
We were greeted and seated then treated to a welcome cocktail, blue with a sake base, refreshing and it whet our appetites for the buffet.
The starters offered salmon and tuna sashimi, both wonderfully fresh and tasty. There was a selection of sushi including salmon or prawn nigiri, several maki and more, including a delicious volcano maki with prawn and crab. We pretty much ignored the other side of the starters (why have cucumber if you can have salmon nigiri?) but had the seared tuna which was amazing.
On to the hot dishes. I had a bowl of ramen with egg and seaweed, and a couple of gyoza dumplings, large but soft and tasty. And I think we tried everything. There was excellent okonomiyaki; the ebi tempura were beautifully light and crispy. The chicken karaage and fried fish were tender and juicy too. We had a tasty beef yanagawa and an inspired nasu saboru served in a brinjal. Plain or fried rice were available, but we passed to save room for the main dishes and dessert!
The dessert selection was also varied. There were non-Japanese treats like chocolate mousse and panna cotta, and some adapted favourites like macaroons, eclairs or opera cake, with macha, green tea or wasabi. Maybe one day we’ll see some genuine Japanese sweets like Castella or Mochi, but for now the cakes worked well and were tasty, particularly the éclair and cheesecake!
It was a super dinner in a chilled ambience and we loved it. And yes, I went to the cold and hot buffets twice, but only once to desserts!
This was an anniversary dinner, but you don’t have to wait a year to try it yourself. Kobe has a dinner buffet on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, with all the classics and I’d recommend it.
Congratulations to the Kobe team for six years of well-deserved success, wish you many more – and see you again soon for another delicious dinner
