This design was produced within a short span of time with the support of my super crew Aruna Wikramasinghe Asitha Yapa Sampath Herath Rukshan Herath Aruna Bandara and appachchi Maliyawadu Kumara. ❤️🙏 From creating the wooden structure to lighting up the neon sign board to taking this 10ft × 12ft structure down 103 steps to the deck, you crew were incredible. ❤️✨️🤘
I got this task in a chaotic time of my life, where everything I ever knew were all collapsing to the ground. With the death of my beloved crew member for 11 years Chunki 🐈✨️, working on this project was kind of the healing process for myself, a process of reminding myself the inevitability of death and the necessity of flowing forward with life. The leaves, the trunks and all other materials were a mix of handmade and lively sourced from home garden. It gave me time to walk and wonder through the forest.
Nature being the greatest creator, recreating its art is nearly impossible and recreating the lives it produces is still beyond our imagination. When a life is lost, its eternally lost, which is why we should be grateful for all lives on this planet.
This work reminded me of the beauty of the selective messiness of life, & the art of flowing with nature while adding your kind of mad creativity into it. Art doesn't have to be perfect, but authentic & genuine.
So, respect all lives while you still can, take a walk outside in the woods and look a little closer to the patterns in the little bug wings, witness a sunrise - the weight of the beginning of a new day. Live and take a moment to slow down and just Be.
