The Kandy Esala Dalada Perahera is Sri Lanka’s grandest and most sacred Buddhist procession.
It is held annually in Kandy to honor the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, which is enshrined at the Sri Dalada Maligawa - Temple of the Tooth.

What happens:
For 10 nights, beautifully decorated elephants, traditional Kandyan dancers, drummers, flag bearers, and torch bearers parade through the streets of Kandy. The highlight is the Randoli Perahera - when the casket containing a replica of the Sacred Tooth Relic is carried on the back of the Maligawa Tusker.
Thousands of devotees and tourists gather to witness it. The Perahera is a symbol of faith, culture, and unity, and is believed to bring blessings and rain to the country.

මහනුවර ඇසළ දළදා පෙරහැර ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පැවැත්වෙන අතිශයින්ම වැදගත් හා ශාන්ත බෞද්ධ මහා පෙරහැරයි.
මෙය ශ්‍රී දළදා මාළිගාවේ තැන්පත් කර ඇති බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ ශ්‍රී දළදා වහන්සේ උදෙසා වාර්ෂිකව මහනුවරදී පැවැත්වේ.

පෙරහැරේ විශේෂත්වය:
දින 10ක් පුරා අලංකාර ලෙස සරසා ඇති රාජකීය අලි ඇතුන්, සාම්ප්‍රදායික කන්ද උඩරට නැටුම්, වාද්‍ය භාණ්ඩ, කොඩි කරුවන් සහ පන්දම් කරුවන් සමඟ මහනුවර වීදි ඔස්සේ මෙම පෙරහැර ගමන් කරයි. අවසන් දින 5 පැවැත්වෙන රන්දෝලි පෙරහැර වඩාත් වැදගත් වන අතර, එහිදී ශ්‍රී දළදා වහන්සේගේ ප්‍රතිරූපයක් සහිත කරඬුව මහනුවර මාළිගාවේ ප්‍රධාන අලියාගේ පිටේ වැඩම කරනු ලැබේ.
දහස් ගණන් වන්දනාකරුවන් සහ සංචාරකයන් මෙම දර්ශනය නැරඹීමට පැමිණේ. පෙරහැර යනු ඇදහිල්ල, සංස්කෘතිය සහ ජාතික එකමුතුකමේ සංකේතයක් වන අතර රට වැසි සහ ආශිර්වාද ගෙන දෙන බව විශ්වාස කෙරේ.
