It was such a memorable occasion for our principal players to also perform at their wedding service at this beautiful church. Following a sold-out Season Opening Concert, the Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Colombo returns to the Lionel Wendt Theatre on Sunday, 20 September 2026.

Under the direction of our Chief Conductor, maestro Srimal Weerasinghe the orchestra presents a programme featuring Beethoven's Symphony No. 8, Mozart's Divertimento in D major, K.251, and John Rutter's Suite for Strings.

We are proud to present the first YouTube release from The Nalin Show", the spectacular 40th Anniversary Concert of Sri Lankan pop icon Nalin Perera.

This groundbreaking concert marked the first time a Sri Lankan pop band performed alongside a full symphony orchestra, bringing together the legendary Marians, the Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Colombo and the acclaimed Ceylon Quartet in an unforgettable celebration of Sri Lankan music.

The music was masterfully reimagined and orchestrated by our Concertmaster Darshana Amarasinghe, creating a rich symphonic soundscape that elevated these beloved songs to new heights.

The concert was conducted by Maestro Srimal Weerasinghe, leading an extraordinary ensemble of musicians in a truly historic musical experience.

The Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Colombo proudly launched its 2026/2027 Concert Season with an evening of profound musical expression under the baton of its Chief Conductor, maestro Srimal Weerasinghe.

The programme journeyed through diverse musical landscapes, beginning with Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question, continuing with Sansara: A Life's Journey by Ashoka Pushpakumara in its performing version by Darshana Amarasinghe, and culminating in Mozart's magnificent Symphony No. 41 in C major, "Jupiter", one of the crowning achievements of the symphonic repertoire.

The evening concluded with a deeply moving and unexpected encore. The musicians of the orchestra presented Auld Lang Syne as a heartfelt tribute to our timpanist, Chisaki Noguchi, who returns to Japan after three remarkable years of service, friendship, and artistry with the orchestra. Her contributions have left an enduring mark on our musical family, and she departs with our warmest gratitude and best wishes.

As we begin a new season, we extend our sincere appreciation to our musicians, patrons, supporters, volunteers, and audience members whose continued encouragement makes our artistic mission possible.
