Nagham Choir is part of the Local Development Program for Urban Areas in North Lebanon that is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in partnership with the Fayha Choir and the Ministry of Social Affairs. In a city like Tripoli, the diversity of the community is definitely a source of richness in cultures. Unfortunately, in some cases and for political reason
s, this diversity created a historical conflict between the two regions: Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen. Since Collective singing is a social act and it is about singing together which can create strong and emotional relationships that are based on mutual respect and understanding,
UDP_NL launched the Nagham Choir in March 2019. It targets youth from Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen area to unite them for a common goal which is building bridges among those youth and promoting to the other communities the beautiful identities of the areas. The rehearsals are having place in Ruwad Al Tanmeya center in Tebbaneh due to its strategic location between the two areas. Strengthen the social integration between the youth of the two regions
2. spread the oriental musical heritage in and deliver it to the largest possible number of audiences
The 1st phase of the project ended with the choir participating in few events in Tripoli. The initial success of Nagham choir’s first year led to a strong wish to keep this choir successful, sustainable and enable it to spread the message of unity and cooperation in other communities of North Lebanon. Nagham Choir Tour is the 2nd phase of the project. It stated in July 2020 for 9 months. In this phase the choir will perform 8 concerts around the T5 (Tripoli, Koura, Minnieh-Dennieh, Batroun, Bcharri, Zgharta) in order to introduce the Arabic Acapella to the maximum number of audience around the area. The objectives of this phase:
1. Nagham Choir will foster social cohesion in the T5 area through facilitating inter-exchange events with a diverse audience from North Lebanon’s various inter-ethnic communities
2. The choir will enhance the capacities
and skills of the members:
a. Organization skills
b. Artistic Development
c. Social skills
