Don't miss the screening of 'Aida Returns' this Friday at Beit Jeddé!

A deeply moving and often humorous documentary that follows director Carol Mansour’s efforts to fulfil her late mother Aida’s wish: to return her ashes to Jaffa, the Palestinian city she longed for during her final years battling Alzheimer’s. Supported by friends and strangers, this intimate journey serves as both a personal tribute and a poetic affirmation of the exile experience.

This film is a tribute to the lost past of the director’s family, an attempt to restore part of both an individual and a collective memory, and a poetic nod and affirmation to all those exiled Palestinians forbidden from returning to their hometowns, even after death.

In our series of independent Arab movies, this week we are screening Hedi (Tunisia, 2016)
This award-winning debut follows Hedi, a reserved young man living in post-Arab spring Tunisia. Steering through the expectations of family and tradition, he's close to entering into an arranged marriage - until a business trip to the coastal town of Mahdia changes everything.

Hedi won the Best First Feature award at the 2016 Berlinale, where lead actor Majd Mastoura earned the Silver Bear for Best Actor, confirming this film as a pivotal voice in the rise of contemporary Tunisian cinema.

This year, Beit Jeddé is proud to present a series of independent Arab films and documentaries in collaboration with Masahat AFLAMUNA 🎬
As part of their Community Cinema Makers program, we had the privilege of receiving training and support to bring this initiative to life.

Screenings will take place on Fridays throughout the summer in our garden, followed by informal discussions over refreshments. All are welcome — bring a friend, a cushion, and an open mind 📽️🌸
