Today, we remember legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away yesterday.

From David Harrington: “Asha will always be one of my most favorite musicians. She was the Queen of Bollywood film soundtrack singers having recorded more than 12,000 songs in 20 languages. We made an album together in 2005 called ‘You’ve Stolen My Heart’: Music of RD Burman on Nonesuch Records. Kronos had so much fun doing this together with Asha, Zakir Hussain and Wu Man. Everyone involved took on all sorts of new roles and Kronos hasn’t looked back. One of her last recordings was in June 2025 for our ‘Hard Rain’ recording with The Red Hot Organization where she sang a verse of Bob Dylan’s song with her granddaughter Zanai pointing to the peril we are all in 80 years after the first nuclear detonation. Asha’s voice was for billions of people the most recognized voice of India. I’ve often thought that statistically Asha is likely the most famous musician in the world and was one of the kindest I’ve ever met. All of Kronos send our thoughts to Asha’s family.”
